Disk Usage

I am having issues again with disk usage.

H-Sphere reports values that are VERY high.

This seems to happen on old accounts - and these accounts are very stable, very few updates or changes made (nothing that would cause huge swings in disk usage, this is ABSOLUTELY not an issue with short term averages and the way monthly averages are computed)

I download ALL files, including logs, and the actual disk usage is usually less than half that reported in H-Sphere

Even adding in MySQL usage and email usage, the actual disk usage is less than half that reported in H-Sphere

In a previous thread Pratik identified a bug that caused this, but there was no resolution (that I know of)

I have opened support tickets, but the replies are always "check H-sphere..."
That's the problem, H-Sphere isn't accurate.

It's simple enough for me to download everything and check the sizes - I'm assuming support can do this using server side tools and file manager?

This seems to happen most frequently on OLD accounts - this was setup in 2010 I think.

The problem is support doesn't seem to recognize this - is there anyway to communicate this OR, and this would be even better - request an entire account scan / fix?

As a re-seller this is frustrating - I shouldn't have to micromanage something like this because of a bug.

Regarding bug, Parallels actually applied a patch that was for this matter, so it hasn't been ignored, i think this is the first new report of issues since then.

We'll need to look into it more address a ticket to Pratik and senior management (including me, but I will just manage making sure its checked for the most part) on [email protected]

Thanks Stephen!

Just an FYI - the support tickets continue to deny there is a problem.
We would like to inform you that control panel shows Average Disk Usage of the account which includes Emails, Databases and we files.
I've sent them the same screen shots and acknowledge that disk usage does include BOTH sql and email and it is still not accurate.

I hope once this is resolved you can also communicate this to everyone responding to support tickets.

And I have to say it's a little frustrating that they seem to ignore basically everything in my tickets - I've tried to document and explain the problem thoroughly, even explicitly explaining the H-Sphere values ARE what is in question. It doesn't seem logical to answer a complaint about H-Sphere by saying "H-Sphere reports...."
I've also sent the same images (and another set for the other account in question) that I included here.

I hope you are working on this issue - the support ticket still claims the H-Sphere numbers are correct.

I really don't understand this:

Support says the server reports the files in the domain are 442 MB
(no email, no SQL - just files)

When I download EVERYTHING via FTP I get 206 MB (size on disk) or 180 MB

This really makes no sense - the only access I have to the files is via FTP!

I can't resolve disk usage problems if I don't have access to the files.

If I am doing something wrong here pleaes let me know!

I just don't see how all the files I have access to via FTP can be SO much different than the numbers you are reporting.

Well, it looks like there is an explanation!

Apparently the domains contained "read only" folders.

I was not able to download these because they are read only - frustrating because the only time I've ever worried about permissions is checking for "777" on Linux servers to secure vulnerable folders.
