email stuff

I am contemplating moving here as my 4'th host in 3 months. this is a tough bag, man. I hope you guys handle it better than others!!

email...
SMTP: do you offer an "alternative" smtp port for users who need it because their ISP blocks port 25? I have heard this is standard with hsphere now, but i need to confirm. This is important.

Management: Is there any way for a reseller to backup his own copies of email settings and/or actual email data as it exists on the hsphere system? My biggest issues with hosts has been with email, and the daunting task of re-configuring client email is the thing that makes it hardest to move! The hsphere pages I have seen don't even give any kind of clean summary of all the mail addresses and settings. that would at least be something to work from if it has to be re-entered manually. so i am wondering if there are any utilities or tricks available beyond what is normally found in hsphere.

Another RC customer it seems :)

There alternative SMTP port is 587 I believe. There is one in any case.
As for backing up mailbox info... there's no functionality built-in for this, but it's possible to make something like it using the H-Sphere SOAP API. You can't retrieve mailbox passwords though, nor password hashes or the like.

It would be nice if PSoft added the ability to get/set password hashes, for backing up/restoring passwords without actually knowing what they are.

You can backup email via IMAP..
Yash,
including email account settings? (forwards, autoresponders, mailboxes, etc.)??

even if no passwords, that would be great.

Oh!... and I should have asked... what are your email backup and redundancy setups?

No, just mailbox data.. I'll have our Linux incharge to see if he can suggest something..

We have a hot standby mailserver. If we have a major system failure, we can put hot standby up within 30minutes

Yep,

Sounds like another fellow refugee from RC - I just spent a week doing email set ups - deep joy .......... not

Guess how many clients didnt have a clue what their passwords were X(

yes, most don't know, that is there SCPassUnleash comes in handy, but it scares some people to much to use it.

ok, i'll be the idiot... what is that?

nevermind, found it... great tool! I am sure I will use it myself.

But asking my clients to install something like that and use it? I would rather just assign them a new password and tell them what it is.

Yash... you do have a relay host that queues mail during that 30 minute time frame... don't you? I believe another JodoHost already made that statement in one of my other posts.
