Question about reseller post: Emails from web sites stopped working

I was ready to make the pluge to Jodo when I saw this thread: http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?t=5034

I wanted to ask a question concerning the following:

*******
Use mail.yourdomain.com or mail.m****here.biz, it is the same thing. They both point to the same IP

I can only guess that your mail was still be routed via the localmail server.. Because one of the web server's IPs was blacklisted for 12 hours last week.

Use your outlook smtp server to avoid these issues

I am closing this thread now. Open a ticket if you continue to face issues
*******

1) I am a little confused. When you say outlook smtp server, wouldn't this be mail?.mydomain.com ?

I was trying to follow the post and one of my MAJOR concerns is over email. My existing host has had too many problems with email and I don't want to move to just to inherit new ones. Can you summarize what happend or what should not have happened. I want to make sure I understand the problems that were experienced.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to put in laymans terms.

Our recommendation is to always use mail.domain.com with CDOSYS and SMTP Auth(the mail won't go through WITHOUT being authenticated).

The outlook server is typically mail.domain.com, but there are exceptions for service domains, service domains would be mail3.servicedomain.com, but only if the account is rather new, since the mail3 server has been in place(a few weeks)

Summary of what happened:

On web2, email begain spooling instead of sending on the local smtp server. We corrected that issue when brought to our attention and all email that was collected on the server was sent out.

However BlueJag had other issues. I recommended him to use mail.yourdomain.com to send out email and not the localsmtp server. Our customer mail servers are regulated and authenticated and hence can't be easily abused. They hence stay off spam blacklists more effectively. However the local smtp server can be abused and can at times, end up on a blacklist until we get it unlisted. Therefore if you want to avoid issues with email delivery from web scripts, use mail.yourdomain.com as your host in your web scripts

Thank you... very clear now.
