I am not happy with Jodohost's tech support.

Three days ago, I logged a ticket regarding site display Chinese. I was promised by the tech three times taht they were going to fix the problem.

in past two nights, they said that they were going to install something, never happened. This morning I was told the issue will solved in one hour. Fours hours passed, nothing works.

Then I online chat with Ranjan, he cut off the chat session after I asked him all questions regarding the issue.

What's going on with JodoHost?????

tocheer, MY internet has been on and off since last night, when I was going to install, it was installed this morning, all the files are copied. The only thing needed now is for you to set the language in the software.

I am again with on and off power and internet as I am sitting at the point where Katrina(hurricane) is about to hit.

I transferred all my web pages files from other hosting sites to Jodohost last week. All files worked perfectly at other places. Other hosting company never told me that they need to install some languge pack or... and nver had issue with Chiense display.

After moving files to Jodohost, nothing is good anymore. Why???

I already set language thru html's content-type with char=gb...

I test all files at least in two other hosting place. Just magically all work.

So u think the hurrican may screwed my html files during the transfer?

Thanks

no, thsat is not what I think that all, about the hurricane :)

I am saying that the language support IS on the server, it is installed, and the fonts are there as well.

What do u mean that I need to do something to my software?

All I have on your server are HTML and CFM files. I already had header with content-type in Chinese in all web pages.

I don't what I need to do to make it to work.

I just installed Win 2K and CF at my home machine. I did not do anything magic, all by default. My pages are displayed correctly.

Why it is so different Jodohost

I had over 12 hours with no power to think about this, it sounds more like the database than the CF server, we may need to recreate your DSN to support UTF, also we may need to set the language if it is using SQL server. Remember SQL is on a different server in our(and most) Hsphere networks, and Access is on the same as web server, but may not have UTF support when the DSN is created.

I haven't set up any DSN and using any SQL yet. Just plain Chinese in HTML and CFM files. Just that Simple.

I can sent you one of the HTML file, you can open it from your local machine using IE browser, it will display correctly.

Here is the code

I don't think it is UTF issue. U should not make page displayed UTF as default to make language diaplayed correctly. Browser will let user make the choice.

Currently, page displayed from you server all default to UTF.

There is nothing wrong on the server side, I even re-installed the language files and restarted the server to be 100% sure.

So you tell me that what's wrong?

I showed Ranjan this morning that I can upload my files to another hosting site. Everything is fine. I did not ask the hositng place to do anything special for me.

One thing I noticed, even your tech guy kep tignoring, is everytime I brought up a page from your hosting, the default Encoding is always UTF-8 (Unicode). Inside my page, I already set the char=gb3212 for simplified Chinese.

At other hosting place, when calling my pages, the default encoding is what I set in my HTMl and CFM file.

That's the difference I noticed so far. I don't know why your server force pages displayed in UTF-8?

A simple issue, which never bugged me at ther place, now get so complicated at your place. Don't understand it.

My site has been not function correctly for days now. Hot to get this one over, I don't know. Before I signed up withyou, I specifically asked Ravi about Chinese display. But it does not work so far.

tocheer, you have other sites running in chinese, it is not the servers. If you can show me that it is in any way, I will change it.

I don't know what to say.

I showed everything to Ranjan. Looks like he did not tell you anything.

Here you go.

www.pugetsoft.com/zz2.html.
This is the page not displayed from your server correctly.

Same file I put it up to seattle-chinese.com
http://www.seattle-chinese.com/zz3.html#

Why it is not working from your server. Encoding is default to UTF-8

Did u see the two links I gave to you. Same file but on different hosting place. The results are different. I know u don't know chinese, but you can notice the pattern is differnt.

Am I right? Can u tell me the two pages are the same when displayed?

Also what do u mean everything is fine on the server?

Stephen said:
I saw everything you told Ranjan, as I said, everything is fine on the server.

Actually, New CFMX server did force the encoding default to UTF-8. That's in CF doc. In order to change the ecoding to another charset, user can put cfcontent to every page to do it.

But after putting cfcontent, now I got server erro.
Check: www.seattle-chinese.com
The error is something related to java

Check out www.chineseinseattle.com. I have idenitcal file at another hosting place. Everything is perfect.

Tocheer4, just for your info, I have a site running in Japanese (same squiggly writing as Chinese) and it works fine (go to www.romanchester.co.uk/default_japanese.aspx)

The site is written in asp.net and when I saved the web pages I made sure I saved in Unicode. Could that be your problem?

PS Stephen, how is your poncho holding up with Miss Katrina ?

Hi guys.

Not sure if this will help try to solve the problem, but if we assume that something in the CF configuration might be the problem, it may help to investigate the following. Please note I know NOTHING about CF, but this just seems like a common sense approach:

1. Take the CMF file in question (which I assume has embedded HTML the same as ASP does) and copy it over to a temporary Windows to use for testing. Rename it to HTML and strip out all the CF code, just leaving straight plain HTML.

2. Browse to that page and make sure if the Chinese characters are displaying correctly. This is the most likely environment for it to work. If it looks ok, do the following:

3. Take that EXACT same file and copy it over to the CF account - an exact copy, still as a simple HTML file. Browse to that file and see if the Chinese characters display. If they still look ok, then at least we know the web server on that machine isn't doing anything weird to HTML files.

4. Now rename the file to CMF, and browse to the file again. It is now engaging CF, and we need to check if Chinese is still displaying properly. If so, then we know that CF itself isn't doing anything weird to the output.

5. Now put the CF code back into the file, and see if anything changes. If the Chinese characters are lost, then the approach will be to try removing bits of CF code until you find out which code is causing the problem.

Hope that helps guys. And hope it makes sense, coz I don't know nufin about CF and take no responsibility for any loss of hair or weight or sanity caused by following my advice. :)
