Since we as resellers are from all around the world, when our servers go down (win1...win5 etc.) some of us suffer more than others. By the way, I don?t mean unexpected down times. This applies to regular maintenance down time only.

So, the concept of my suggestion is to have similar origin domains in the same server e.g. domains locally from US are separated than domains locally from Europe. One way to do that is to have an option to tell HSphere where that domain is originated when we or our customers add more domains so they can be added to different servers.

What?s good about doing this? I?ll give you an example; at 7 pm, tech support is working on a server where my domains are held. For most of my domains, local time is 11 am during business hours. But if the tech support knew those servers? maintenance hours depending on their category, it would save us -and them some time spend on tickets to find out what?s going on.

I am sure there are many cons about following this structure from Jodohost?s point but I just felt stating it.

I agree with you, now at my country 13.00 PM (Business Hour) and all my customer using their email but now Win 5 down...

How to answer all my customer question? Or just tell them to work on night time only.. :D

That's one of the better ideas I've heard today.

Different accounts from the same reseller account are already spread across different servers, aren't they? Since some accounts are on Windows and some on Linux servers, so it seems it is technically possible.
90% of the traffic for 90% of my sites takes place between 8am and 9 pm EST. If maintenance took place after midnight EST, only a small amount of my customers' traffic would be affected, perhaps only 2% or so in some cases.

Being able to select the timezone for an account would be very useful. Every little helps.
 
A very good suggestion! I support it!

I would have prefered to have my "local" domains hosted on local servers but so far it's much simpler/cheaper to host all at one host. Now if I can choose the webserver based on the timezone of my target audience that would probably be a great compromise.
 
Unfortunately this solution does nothing for people like me with a user base from around the world. My problem (and also JH's problem) is there is never a good time to make updates, because it's always the middle of the day somewhere. My traffic seems to be evenly spread across all 24 hours of the clock.

It's a great point. Not sure how practical it would be for JH to implement though.

My time zone is GMT +2 , and when ever JH plans server maintenace, it tends to coincide with my sites busiest time.

It would be near impossible to implement this in a workable fashion, it is a great idea, and if it ws possible it might be workable, but it is not at this time possible.

I think that using local servers is the only way you can get around this. Unfortunately, everyone knew where Jodo's servers were located before signing up, or at least could have known if you wanted to. Knowing where the servers are is something that you have to take into consideration when choosing a host. There were many very competitive hosts out there that i could have gone that were hosted in the UK and Australia, but those would have caused me the same issues some of you are dealing with. Even with Jodo being in the Easteran time zone, my clients on the west coast may experience some downtime due to maintenance. That is a risk I took and will live with if I'm effected. My clients all know that their sites are being hosted in the Eastern Time Zone and that it's business hours don't coincide with theirs.
 
Jonyah - all very true. I looked at UK hosts but frankly they were just not in the same class as Jodo. Most of the time, my UK-centric sites actually do very well hosted in Miami. Also, there are a few which are worldwide so Miami isn't an issue, but speed certainly is. For we UK members a server in London would be convenient from the maintenance point of view, but probably wouldn't affect speed too much.
