Bounced mail

Hi all,

I get complains about bouned mail (Delivery Status Notification - Failure), from an x mail server to the jodo server and I can not find anything wrong. Do you have any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

This is possible if you have Mail Relay enabled for the domain.
This will create a secondary MX record with the backup mailserver in it, but the backup mailserver normally permanently refuses to accept email and thus email can bounce if for any reason it's being delivered to a lower priority mailserver.

Personally I recommend not using the Mail Relay option.

This concern me so much...

That's what it's supposed to do and what it normally does. But it's feasible that mail gets delivered to the secondary mailserver for a variety of reasons and when it's not actually activated it could cause these problems.

At least that's what it was like a few months ago. I'll do some testing soon to see if the situation has been fixed, but it seems that the domain I can freely mess around with has a different mail configuration problem atm :(

Subspace, your problem can be easily corrected if you let us know the domain. I will get it checked if the email configs are not correctly posted to the secondary mail server.

Dlmartin, you donot need to worry for this and any such issues, if they exist now, can be easily corrected with just a ticket.

I think you can continue now (if it is the one in your ticket) ;)
