CGI-Wizard phpBB updating

A client has installed phpBB via the CGI-Wizard in the Control Panel. It is currently version 3.0.4, while the latest version is 3.0.5. Does phpBB installed via the CGI-Wizard differ from a standard install in any way, and is it safe to use the standard phpBB "Automatic Update Package" to keep the application current?

Nope it doesn't auto updatein any way, we can't even force it to, one reason I really dislike the auto installer, I think I've mentioned it around here before :D

So is it likely to be safe to download and install the latest version of phpBB over top of the existing version? It's a bit pointless providing applications and then insisting that the customer keeps them up to date if that's not possible...

nzkiwi,

We can't exactly 'remove' the phpbb, so it is there. We can disable it for our shared clients, but resellers will still have it in their plan creation and opt for it. I agree fully and that is EXACTLY why we don't do the EasyApps service on windows, and probably won't do the AppVault or whatever they call it on Hsphere after it is integrated(if ever).

Yes you can just install over it.

Thanks Stephen. Removing CGI wizard from plans. Leaving EasyApps for now, but adding additional clause to TOS spelling out client's responsibility to ensure installed apps are kept at latest version and the consequences if not.
