Changing folder permissions on windows server

I'm sorry if this sounds like a total novice question.
After installing some php scripts I need to set the read/write permissions accordingly. According to my FTP everything is set to 777 and as a result it all seems to function correctly, but I'm concerned this may cause a security issue?
Am I right in thinking the permissions cannot be changed by an individual (such as using CHMOD on Unix for example)? If I do need permissions changed on certain folders or files do I need to contact Jodohost support each time, or am I missing something? :rolleyes: :)
 
windows doesn't do chmod so if you want only read permissions you need to submit a ticket.
 
Thanks for the reply Stephen. Seems a shame to trouble the Jodohost staff over it, but I'll make a note to create a support ticket when I need to start changing permissions.
