Changing from 3rd level Domain to TLD

Normally, if I set up a site for a customer I initially set up a third level domain and develop the site in this, then when they are happy with it I register their tld domain name and create a new 'folder' in H-Sphere as the TLD and copy and paste the files from the "example.myhost.co.uk to example.co.uk.

Thing is, one of my sites has a number of mysql DB's that has been set up in a 3rd level and we now want to set up the tld...is there any way of doing this without copying the files over via ftp client?

add the TLD Domain as an Alias?

if there going to be hosted on the same server/hosting account, you can just kinda drag the folder over - ive done this lots of times

am not sure about the mysql problem, if you mean it has links to the 3rd level in it, couldnt you have both running at the same time (file structure) and change the values over? then delete the 3rd level domain?

but the easiest way i see of doing it is add the domain as an alias
