CMS Programs ans EasyApps collection

I've been looking at the Easy Apps Collection and some other Open Source CMS solutions for my self and my clients. I've installed several Easy App programs (Joomla, Mambo, Wordpress) in HSphere on a Jodohost account for testing purposes. Most of them seem to be several versions behind or outdated. There is no option to upgrade either. Should I download the latest versions and upgrade each program? Does Jodohost only support the versions available under Easy Apps in HSphere? Do other users have any experience or recommendations with these programs that they can share?

I'm also interested in Moveable Type but searching for it in the forums returns few results, all at least 2 years old. Is Moveable Type supported at Jodohost? Has anyone setup Moveable Type successfully at Jodohost? If so, did you have any problems?

I know of many others but the ones mentioned above are what I'm testing now. Are there other solutions that users would recommend not mentioned?

Any advice and experiences of other users would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would recommend, download the latest. I am no fan of auto installers

BTW I like e107 in my experience with it

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I should download the latest versions. This is what I was considering based on some of the security flaws found and patched by later versions.

Out of the CMS programs I mentioned, will any of latest versions have issues on a Unix plan at Jodohost? Can any of these work on Windows? Most seem to need Perl or Active Perl. Is this supported on both Windows and Unix?

One other thing. I'm still a bit green with PHP and it appears the register_globals is set to on. I know I can turn it off thru .htaccess and possibly by adding a php.ini file. I've read that this should be turned off at the server level because if other sites do not turn this off on the same server it could lead to security issues throughout. Any suggestions? IS it correct that it should be turned off on the server? Is this something that needs to be done at Jodohost? Thanks!

they will all work on unix, and most will work on windows. perl is supported on both if needed.

PHP wise, I will answer windows which I know :)

The issues on it restricted to just domain level permissions, so it only matters per domain. you can make a custom php.ini if needed as you stated.

For ease of use (from the perspective of the person posting content), CMS Made Simple is the easiest I've found yet. In terms of customizability, features, add-ons, etc. Mambo seems the best.
