Although I've been a developer for many years, I'm still a neophyte when it comes to configuring the network aspects of a web site. I'm trying to map a second level domain name (www.xyz.com) to a web site I've setup as a third level domain (www.sub.abc.com) under a different domain. I think I understand adding my reseller name servers at the registrar for www.xyz.com. What's not clear to me is how do I configure my DNS zone.
1) it looks like I should create a new zone for www.xyz.com?
2) how do I setup the A record to point to www.sub.abc.com?
3) I've setup www.sub.abc.com as a static ip - is this neccessary? (no need for https)
If somebody could give me some advice or point me to good reading materials I'd appreciate it. I've gone through the HSphere guide - it's good for task documentation but does not give me a feel for where I need to go. I'm also reading SAMS "Teach Yourself TCP/IP Networking"
