dreamweaver or contribute ftp connection problem

Has anyone had difficulty connecting to jodo servers using Macromedia Contribute3's built in ftp features?

I can ftp to jodo servers with a client, but Contribute software keeps have a connection problem. it can connect and I can navigate ftp directories, but when it gets to the last part of the connections wizard and does ftp diagnostics tests it produces this error:

"Contribute cannot verify your connection information
/domain.com/ "

(I have shown domain.com instead of the actual domain but I am using an actual domain)

I have searched macromedia's site without any luck. And the funny thing is, on my other hsphere host.. it works just fine, which is why I am posted here at jodo at this point.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a lot of customers to migrate, but some use contribute and I have to make this work.

Cheers

Contribute does seem to have weird connection problems. I've never had a (serious) problem connecting from Dreamweaver MX2004 (spit), but have had clients who could not connect from Contribute using exactly the same details, or even using a connection key generated from a Contribute administrator connection that does definitely work.
Macromedia provide an FTP checker that explicitly tests the connection, but I've found that clients sometimes still cannot connect even when that says the connection is fine.

I had one client who could not connect to one site through Contribute (but could connect to others), and I even went to their premises to try to connect them, but couldn't get it to work. It worked fine from my own PC. A few months later, I found they were connecting just fine, but they couldn't remember what they'd done ?( )

As far as I recall, the starting directory should be /username/domain.com/ if that's any help.

One other thing to check is that you aren't currently connected using the same details as your client. That seems to cause problems for Contribute.

Macromedia aren't much help with these problems, by the way. They take the Japanese approach to product faults. i.e. "what problem? Even if it existed, it'll be fixed in the version... don't hold your breath"

edit: I should say that (mostly) Contribute does work well enough with JH servers once a connection is established
