Google Checkout

I have been trying to get Google Checkout to work with my Shopping Cart. I have been discussing this with the Shopping Cart Software Company and they say that my hosting provider needs to have the Google service installed or I need to have a User Account setup with my Google Checkout Merchant ID and Password.

I sent a ticket to setup a User Account with my Google Checkout ID and Password, but the Control Panel does not accept the ID because it is just numbers.

Can you please look into adding the Google Service to the servers so I don't need to be able to do Basic HTTP authentication or fixing the User Account to take the Google Merchant ID and Password? Here is an article that points out the authentication (http://www.comersus.com/gateway-google-checkout-shopping-cart.html).

Thanks,

Adam

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone successfully used Google Checkout using Jodohost?

Jodohost, do you know anything about the HTTP Basic Authentication or the Google Checkout Service?

Thanks,

Adam

I have not heard back on my ticket about Google Checkout. Could someone please let me know where you are at? Ticket #:IUW-20768-343

We have a few that are using it, and one in ticket asked for an object to be installed, but google has pulled the object saying it is not needed anymore.
For payment systems we do typically install the needed com objects, but for google the download was dead....

Stephen,

If you have a few people that are using it, why can't your team get me setup? I have spent two months on this and still nothing. I checked with Google and they said:

"If you're still getting the HTTP 401 errors, then it appears that basic authentication is still not set up properly. Please ensure your hosting provider has configured your Merchant ID and Merchant Key as your basic authentication username and password."

Then your team replied that it is not possible with HSPHERE which is really wierd excuse. I bet if I talked to HSPHERE they would say that is not correct. I searched google for HSPHERE and Google Checkout and found dozens of examples of people integrating Google Checkout with HSPHERE.

I would appreciate any help as I am getting weary of chasing JodoHost tickets to get this done for my site.

Thanks,

Adam

umm NO we CAN NOT modify the anon user and pass. It just may be there other people are using another means to do it.

We cannot and will not edit the user and pass to some other id,it is integrated into hsphere and required to operate. if you want an operational site that won't be changed.

You cannot just arbitrarily change the user and pass of that anonymous ID id, it will never open on the site if you do, for anyone.

So no one has mentioned other means to me before. What other means are there?

I don't care what way it gets integrated.

I do find it interesting that you can't do Basic Authentication. From all of the information I have read from other forums, Basic Authentication is something that all hosting companies do. What am I missing here?

How can I get my account setup to use Google Checkout?

Thanks,

Adam

I really think you are misunderstanding something somewhere here, what does your internal site authentication ID have to do with anything? The authentication methods used are what IDs your site as the one allowed to login and access files to be served to clients, if it gets changes there will forever be a password prompt because it used match the sites Anonymous IUSR ID number and auto generated random password.

I am not a developer, I don't know and haven't spent long researching google checkout but I know there are some using it and I know that I have worked a ticket of someone wanting a DLL that google has pulled as it is not required anymore.

I am pretty sure the issue here is not google checkout but the way this cart has chosen to implement it, and those are two different things.

one quick thing, have you tried using webshell to make a login matching these IDs? It may work.

We tried that and it just put a password on my entire site.

I contacted a few people that use the same Shopping Cart Software that I have and they use Crystal Tech and it works.

I really don't want to move away from JodoHost as I like your company and I have been a customer for a long time.

Give me some options. I want to use Google Checkout and JodoHost.

Do I have to change to a different plan?

Thanks,

Adam

If you did the webshell protect and it password protected the whole site, you did it wrong. It can be done on a per folder level without a problem. In fact most people do it on a per folder level.

I'd check that again, I think it is the answer for you :)

Stephen,

The file that needs to be protected is in a folder with other files. I will email the Shopping Cart company and ask what that changes, but do you have any other ideas? If I switch to a more powerful plan would that help?

Thanks,

Adam

Nothing to do with the plan, what you are asking can't even be done on semi dedicated plans as they too are tied to hpshere.

We aren't trying to extract money from you :)

Stephen,

I know you aren't trying to get more money out of me. If I move to a VPS plan does that use HSPHERE?

Do you have any other plans that don't use HSPHERE?

Thanks,

Adam

Well we will be soon, but I have to say most of the control panels and even custom setups I know of use a dedicated user for the authentication, and can't just be made into the merchant ID #.

Plesk is offered on the VPS systems, but you won't be able to do it well there, you could do it manually but plesk would continually be messing up the permissions making a never ending merry go round of issues.

Stephen,

I asked someone who hosts with Crystal Tech and they use cPanel. They said, "I have it working on Crystal Tech, I created a user from the CT control panel | Site | Site User Admin using the my merchant account as the user id and the merchant key as the password."

I searched everywhere for notes on Google's Merchant Forum and HSPHERE's Forum for a message that says that it will not work and I could not find it.

I just don't think I am asking the impossible. If this didn't work with HSPHERE I would see something about it somewhere.

I appreciate the dialog as I really want to make this work.

Thanks,

Adam

Stephen,

When I setup Google Checkout in my shopping cart I chose to have the error log both in screen but also IIS. Take a look at the log and see if that will help you see what is going on.

Again, this is NOT a google checkout issue, this is the shopping cart you are usings means of communicating to google checkout.

I will take a look but its going to be late tonight, I am heading back to texas and trying to get the last two new servers up right now :)

Stephen,

Any luck? I was able to talk to someone who is using the same shopping cart and they are hosting with Crystal Tech and it works and passes the information back from Google.

Is Positive Software stating that HSPHERE will not work with Google Checkout?

I am willing to hire a developer to look into the shopping cart programming if you feel that is the problem, but others using the software say they are getting it to work.

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Adam
