How much time do you keep backup data?

How much time do you keep backup data? One customer asks me about some data he had in January and he needs to recover.

January will be impossible, I am sorry.

We try to keep 1 backup from a month or so(25-33 days) and one backups that is 24-36 hours old, others in between as well, but not always, as we have to manage the space on the backup server and can not keep daily backups for a whole month.
