IMPORTANT: MSSQL1 Scheduled Upgrade

Dated: March 14, 2004

We are planning to downgrade the operating system for MSSQL1 to Windows 2000 and upgrade its hardware to a Pentium 4 Hyper-threaded processor and dual hard disks in a Raid1 configuration. This will not only give greater performance and stability but also avoid hours of downtime in the future due to a hard-drive or system crash. We are thus considering this upgrade as very important to maintain the reliability of this server

This server will additionally be put in a datacenter in Florida where we are putting all our newer Windows 2000 based servers. We have decided to downgrade some of our systems to Windows 2000 due to the constant reliability issues we have been facing with Windows 2003.

The downgrade is scheduled for 2:00 AM EST (GMT - 5) on March 15th. The process involves making a compressed backup of all files and then transfering it to the new server. Creating the backup will take approximately 30 minutes (or less). During this time, the MS SQL server will be brought offline. Once the backup has been created, the server will be turned online while the backup is transfered to the new server. This transfer is expected to take approximately 1.5 hours. During this period, any new data added to your ms sql server will not be transfered over. We recommend that all customers put their websites to "read-only" mode for this period. If it is absolutely necessary for you to write data during this period, you may continue and we'll perform a separate shift for your database at a later time. But we ask our customers to request such treatment if absolutely necessary

Additionally, all customers must ensure that they are using the host name - mssql1.jodoshared.com instead of the IP to access the server. This is highly important and we request customers to change to the host name if they are using the IP. For resellers, the MS SQL host name would be mssql1.yourhost.com.

For further questions, please contact [email protected]. Resellers are requested to pass this on to their customers

We have completed the migration of mssql1. Unfortunately, IP propogation is taking longer than we expected. We thus request all customers to use the IP 64.156.220.242 to connect to mssql1.jodoshared.com. This step should be done as soon as possible. mssql1.jodoshared.com will begin resolving to this IP within the next 12 to 24 hours. If you wish to not make any change, your data will be written to the wrong MS SQL server during the propogation period. This is not a problem since we can migrate your database over to the new server again but if possible, we'd like to avoid doing so. Thus we request our customers to change the IP if possible
