IMPORTANT: Win8 Scheduled Migration

Starting Time: 8PM EDT(GMT-4)
Date: Friday, August 25
Reason: Upgrade of hardware and software

We will begin migrating Win8 to a new hardware and software platform on Friday August 25th at 8PM. This migration will be done differently than previous migrations, as we will utilize Hsphere user migration tools to migrate each user one at a time. This will result in a slower more planned migration and allow us to move SSL certificates and ASP.NET settings as before they go live on the new server.
Win8 was the 2nd Windows 2003 server Jodohost installed, it was using the Windows 2003 Web Edition software, this software limits available RAM to 2GB, regardless of how much may be installed on the server. The only way to upgrade is to fully reinstall. Therefore we decided to upgrade server that the clients are on to our new AMD platform like the rest of the servers we are running. The server is a Dual AMD Opteron 246, Windows 2003 Standard, U320 RAID5 146GBx3 Hard Disk array. This server has much more processing power and available RAM in order to serve all clients needs. In addition ASP.NET 2.0 will be installed and available to users that are moved, after the move has been completed.
We will move users according to username, starting with 0-9, and going down from a to z.
Friday at 8PM we plan to start with 0 and go to though all usernames down to E(not including users with E).
We will focus on the needs of these clients via ticket and livechat, but we have performed many such moves in the last 6 months with minimal problems, and we do not foresee major issues with the user migrations.

Saturday at Noon, I plan to resume moving accounts and start with E and go through O(not including O).
Sunday at 6am, Start with O and finish all accounts.
This schedule is a bit fluid and may change depending on how well the moves progress and how fast all files transfer, with the method we are using if there is need for any delay it will not hinder those that have been moved, and will not cause any problem for those that have not moved yet.
While the move is in progress the sites will work on both servers, and after 24 hours all DNS should be pointing to the new server, with all sites and services up on the new server.

We will make all efforts to export any SSL Certificates that you may have installed, but they may require a manual re-installation if the export does not succeed.
Any FTP Subaccounts you may have submitted for technical support will need to be manually recreated by our staff, if you know you have FTP Sub Accounts needing setup on the new server, it would be good to include the details in a ticket before the move takes place.

We look forward to providing you with excellent service during this migration and if you have any questions feel free to ask in the forums(if not a private question) or via ticket.

You may also submit a question to the Win8 Migration team leaders(Prakash and I will be leading the migration) at win8migration @ jodohost.com
This is not a replacement for the ticket system, and should not be used in its place, but if you have a question or wish to request your account be moved sooner or later in the process you can send an email here. With the method we are migrating this time, we have the flexiblity to allow changes on a per-user basis.

How to check if my account is on win8:

1. Open Hsphere Control Panel.
2. Go to "FTP User/Account -> FTP User"
3. check here Server Name.

If Still have any query then please contact us at Live chat support.

Accounts have been moving across very smoothly so far. Sites are up, on both servers.

Just as a status update, over 25% of the total data hase been moved, while only currently still at the end of the C's in processing the accounts. So this was a very "top heavy" move, the E's probably won't be starting until about 2pm because of this.

About 55% of the migration is done now, we are on pace with the schedule on the first post.

Well being a little closer to 6am now, it looks like O's might be a short while later, between 7-8am. But data is still moving very well and many sites are live on win19 now(dns transfers done as well)

The migration is still going well. I have exported any installed and current SSL certificates, and as the sites go live on the new server I am installing them there. Any sites using shared ssl(there were only a few), may need to disabled and re-enable shared ssl services.

And one added note, FTP services are disabled on Win8, they were greatly slowing the transfer by havign files changed and need to be resent across the network.

While most accounts have moved to Win19 by now, there are still about 25 that are still transferring data, and they will remain transferring until they are complete.

This migration went pretty well overall, there are still 5 accounts with a large amount of small files that are trying to keep sync, but their sites are on both servers and running on both at the same time.

There have been very few tickets on this but the main one I am seeing is about ftp, what do I use now! Use 64.187.103.248 or win19.servicedomain(your custom one).

For those using external DNS services Win8 will remain up until friday evening with the websites and content, after this point I will turn IIS off, but leave the data intact until monday, this will give time is someone still had a site using external DNS to get it corrected after noticing it being down on Friday.
We are doing this as flexible as possible and it turned out to be a very time consuming, but rewarding task!

Just as a note to all.

The Win8 migration is complete, there are still some sites using win8(via external DNS I presume), I have contacted them and made them aware of the change.

However, we are keeping all the migrations in a suspended state so that all files and settings are preserved on Win8, if you wish to be able to add a domain, email address, domain alias, etc you will need to submit a ticket or come to live chat and ask us to remove the account from a suspended state. I will be doing this tomorrow evening on all accounts that do not request it prior to then.

Win8 IIS is off now, all accounts have been moved for nearly or over a week now. If you have DNS still poiting to win8 it needs to be updated to Win19 at the earliest!
