Mail Server Backup Server and Name Servers

Do we, the resellers and our resold accts have multiple e-mail servers in place or backup e-mail servers? in case our primary mail server goes down?

second topic: Name Servers...if a reseller sets up two name servers...are the two name servers technically two name servers or factually just one name server as far as their actual functions? I realize the two are assigned two diff ip numbers, however are the two ip numbers working off the same machine? Would the two only suffice for one if this is true?

And now we can go back to the Mail Servers, are the mail servers housed behind the same router and/or in the same building?

I have a customer that is asking the above questions and I do not know how to answer the questions!

1) We have standby mail servers that would allow us to restore a mail server in a relatively short time.
2) We are implementing an anti-spam gateway system that would allow emails to be queued incase of mail server downtime
3) the name servers are on distinct servers
