We are taking steps in the last 24 hours to migrate web6 to a new server, after analyzing the logs from the last outage, we got the server back online, but believe there is a major RAID card problem looming unless we take action to prevent the failure.
We have put in place another server, with Dual Core Woodcrest CPUs at 2.4Ghz, 4GB of DDR2 ECC RAM, 160GB RAID1 SATA2 Hard Drives on a 3ware 9550SX Platform, running CentOS 4.4.
We have already completed the process of copying all your files and settings to this new server and will process an update of all changed files at 9:30PM EDT tonight, and at 11:00 until 11:15PM we will move all IPs from the old to the new server. We ask that you try not to update content on web6 during this 1.5 hour timeframe so that all files may be able to sync between servers fully and completely up to date.
At this time web6 is up and working fully, without any problems, but we are taking this step now to prevent any future problems from occurring, and expect to see minimal outage during the move. We will have to move the IPs addresses and clear the cache on the router and switches for the IP changeover to occur and there may be up to 5 minutes down when this happens.
All your settings and files will be moved over to the new server, but if there are any permissions related problems that occur we ask that you send us a ticket with the domain and username or come to live chat and we will fix them promptly.
We apologize for the lack of notice regarding this, but after going through the logs from the last outage we decided to start setting up a new server to move this data over for the best long term solution, and to make the move as soon as possible to prevent further outages. We started the process of copying files during the slower period over the weekend, and wanted to make the change during this time, but were unable to give customers enough notice for this to happen properly.
This move is to a more powerful server with more CPU(not frequency, but the newest models are far more powerful), double the RAM, and a newer OS, as well as a newer higher performance RAID card and disk subsystem.
To know if you have a site hosted on Web6/Unix9 or your own site is hosted on Web6, you may open your domains control panel and go to the FTP section, it will say server name "web6.jodoshared.com" or "web6.yourdomdain.com"
Again, I would like to remind you web6 is up and running properly, but we must take these actions to prevent future problems.
