Migration and email

I'm trying to move all my domains over to jodohost from another Hsphere host and it's seeming like quite a task. I've set up all the email accounts and domains. What I need to do now is migrate the files and make sure they do not miss any emails during the domain transfers. What are the best ways to do each with two Hsphere systems?

Is there some way to transfer the files easily? I do not need to move all the old emails but need to find some way to keep my clients form missing emails without instructing each one to set up duplicate accounts in their email clients to pull from both servers. Is there a way to forward emails from the old server to the new one? PLease help. Thanks!

Another idea... could I setup secondary MX records form the old host IP or service account? Could I add a forwarding email address to each email account that would forward any new emails at the old host over to the correct accounts at Jodohost?

I don't think you can avoid the possibility of some mail going to the old mail server.

You can try to reduce the TTL on the DNS settings a couple of days before the change, but some systems could always have the IP cached and sent some mail to the old mail server.

Forwarding the mail from one server to the other sounds good but how do you achieve that if you're using the same domain? I saw some days ago that the RFC also accepts something like the email account @ IP but I don't know if that's possible to achieve.

another couple of options, depending on your email volume and professionalism needed...

1. Set up Forward on old server to 3rd party (like gmail) then after transition, forward from gmail to correct recipient.
or
2. Once emails servers have been switched, go in to mailboxes on old server, and manually forward emails.
or
3. Just say 'screw it' and let them lose any emails missed in the transition. I mean, who really wants more emails to deal with anyway? And isn't your time more valuable than making sure they don't miss the lates V1agrA ad? 8)

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like there really isn't an easy way to do this without some emails going to the old server. I think I'll use one of two options:

1. Ask all customers to check their web mail account at the old host using the old service domain or web mail IP.
2. Ask all customers to set up a duplicate accounts in their mail clients to check the old mail server by old service domain or IP.

While this will basically work it would be great to find a way to just forward them all. I think I could add a forward to each email using the IP address of the corresponding Jodohost mail server but this might not work and I'd have to add it to 100's of email addresses.

If any one has a better solution please help me and let me know. Thanks!
