Moving old name servers

I've finally moved all but one of my accounts from the "other" network. The one account which has not been moved still has the domain pointing to the name servers from the old network. Unfortunately, I cannot change the name servers for the as-yet-unmoved domain.

For discussion's sake, we'll call the old name servers ns1.oldnetwork.com and ns2.oldnetwork.com, with oldnetwork.com being my service domain on hsphere at the "other" network.

oldnetwrok.com currently has the IP address of the "other" network listed for the nameservers; is there any way I could point these two name servers to my existing jodohost account which uses a different domain for its service account? I'd really like to cancel my service on the "other" netwrk, but as long as this one account is still over there, I'm stuck.

Any help is appreciated

Hi Hafa,

What is the problem that is preventing you from changing the name servers on that one account? If you could change it that would be the best way I would think.

It's a matter of communication between the client and thier registrar. There is a significant language barrier, and the registrar, Mark Monitor, is highly uncooperative and uncommunicative. If there is not some way for me to fudge the name servers, I'll have to issue an ultimatum which will not go over well with the client, as they'll most likely need to bring in high-priced corporate lawyers and a team of translators for them.

Ouch!

Does your client have the username and password to get into the registration area to change the name servers? If not is there an area where forgotten user names and passwords can be retrieved? Can you try and put in a request to move it to a different registrar like GoDaddy or something like that?

That's the problem. The client has lost their password, Mark Monitor does not have a retrieval feature and they will not respond to emails from the client. The domain is locked, and so transfers are out; we've tried.

This leaves us with two choices:

1. Do a name server fudge
2. Call in the lawyers

About the only other thing I can think of is to get a good password retrieval program and run it on their computer. I don't have a current recommendation for one..but I know that they are out there It's pretty amazing what they can uncover on a computer. If your client isn't very proficient though with being able to download, run, and analyze those types of programs it might not help.

Maybe someone else has some thoughts on this?

hafa, the only thing I can think of is that you keep the old reseller account active. You can point the A & MX records of that domain to our cluster so its actually hosted with us, but its DNS is served by the old provider

Thanks for the suggestion, Yash. That may be a good short-term option to address stabilty issues while the lawyers do their thing.

I'm going to resurrect this thread, rather than start a new one...

I was wondering if I could setup a separate shared account to which I could point the old name servers.

Since I have control over the nameserver domain, I could just point it to the IP for the new jodohost shared account...

Would this work? I'd rather give the money to Jodohost than the "other" network...

If you have control over the nameserver domain (ns1/2.oldnetwork.com ), you can just change the IPs to point to your corresponding ones at JH. This is when this is the only account left and doesnt hurts anything else. I donot see a need of a new account.
If required, let me know and i will manually edit the NS records for the domain to reflect your ns1/2.oldnetwork.com.
