My Experience this last week...

Hi all,

This is my first post. Forgive me if it's in the wrong place.

My Experience this last week...

http://www.web-hosting.uk.com/
This was my original host - they had let me down several times. Our website had gone down at least 3-4 times over a period of three weeks. Their server had stopped responding to .asp requests which meant our site was unable to function as it is entirely ASP driven. I have sent several messages to their support, but I am still awaiting a response from them...

Also, it's not as if the site was down for short periods at a time, the down-time was on weekends and lasted most of the day. Most of our business comes in on the weekend...not good.

I decided to change to a more reliable 'expensive' host - 1and1.co.uk. Unfortunately, my nightmares continued. In
desperation, I signed up for their MS Business package (?10 p/m or, approx $20p/m). No SQL, no imaging components...

The File Manager in their control panel went 'wrong' (i.e. it's was not working at all). All directories and files are read-only by default - I was able to view/browse my site, but unable to to have anybody place an order due to the fact the database was read-only. Without the CP filemanager I was unable to change this. I contaced their support, I am still awaiting their reply.

They don't allow parent paths, which meant a lot of code re-writing - and quickly too!. I submitted a request to them to enable parent paths on my site - I am still awaiting their response...

The only email they have responded to fairly quickly is one requesting my account be cancelled...

Signed up via PayPal - Account was active within a few hours. Received multiple communications from them. As a bonus, I had been assigned a 'stopgap' domain. This meant I could forward requests from my current host to this domain until DNS propagation had occurred. My site was up and running shortly after my account was active! I needed shared SSL, submitted a ticked for a static IP - Jodohost responded. My site is now fully functional - with SSL, Mail, etc.. DNS propagation has now occured so my own domain is up and running.

So far a good experience - all for $6.95 m/o with support?? Can't complain - this is value. I realise some of you may have experienced problem with Jodohost - but at least they're talking to us...

So a big 'Thank You' goes out to Jodohost... Hope it all stays good...

web-hosting.uk.com are really bad hosts. Their mail servers are constantly losing my email, or returning it to sender. Their support is really bad- no reply for ages, and often very inadequate. Support line and other lines are always engaged. Its like they have taken on too many clients and are now unable to provide anyone with a decent service.
