Nameserver Update - Register.com

Hello,

This morning I attempted to update the nameserver IP for a domain on register.com. There is no option through their user interface for attaching an IP address to the NS record. Register.com customer support told me that they only use the aliases and that when the IP change occurs, their system will automatically update. This seems to be the opposite of what I have read on this forum and in the e-mail I received.

Is it possible to simply input the IP address of the new nameserver rather than the alias? I have never see this done.

Please advise if anyone has information regarding this on register.com.

No register.com is clueless it seems :)

that is only the way it works AFTER you have registered the IP to nameserver, then it will pickup auto when assigning the named nameserver.

I have access to a register.com users account, I just need to get permission to login and take some screenshots, I will attempt to do this today.

I am 99% sure I have seen this option on their system.

Thanks, I look forward to any information you can provide. I have several service domains through register.com and I would like to switch them over as soon as possible.

ok I got it already:

1. Login
2. Go to your Domain or Delegated Domain
3. Scroll down on the summary view after clicking your domain, you will see like this:

Then it is a multi purpose page, I actually like it quite a bit except possibly that you need to know the old IP, you can get that from intodns.com doing a lookup on your domain it will give the old assigned glue IPs, if you need that for reference to put in register.com that will give it to you for at least two of them.

That page looks like this, and in the worst case scenario you cant match up IPs for some reason, you could issue a delete here, and create it with the 'first time' option I present here:

I had to make some edits for the user here, but it looked almost exactly like this just with their domain.

Thanks - I had seen that page, but I have a question: that page automatically has a nameserver that matches the service domain, rather than the name server alias for our reseller account.

For instance - if you look in the second image you show:

______.myclientssite.com is already filled in, and our name servers are labeled differently: ns3.ourhostingservice.com. I could edit the IP address as you mention, but the alias will not match.

Does that make sense?

not really following, it should automatically have something here, as this domain didn't have any nameservers, so it looks slightly different.

But you are saying that the nameservers you made before, do not match to the servicedomain you have setup here?

Maybe if you want send me your real domains here in private message and a screenshot if you want, but don't really have to have screenshot just if I could know what real domains you are talking about maybe I can follow.

edit: if you are talking about the m****here.biz alias...that is really a point of reference for the 'physical' server behind the alias. you don't have to have that there at all.
