The Grapes of Wraith
Chapters 24-30
Summary
The hostility directed towards migrant workers brings them together. California locals form bands to traumatize the farmers and keep them in their low place. The Joads are at a camp sponsored by the government where the farmers and other migrants can run themselves. After the en go out to find work, the ladies group of the camp come tell the women the rules of the camp. There is a camp dance one night. During the dance, three members of the Farmer?s Association come and start a riot, being paid to do so, however; the members were caught in the nick of time. After the Joads have been in the camp for about a month, they decide to leave the camp sponsored by the government. The Joads go to a peach farm and work there for a day, earning a dollar. The dollar is just barely enough to feed everyone dinner. Tom runs into Jim Casy and the two talk for a little while. While Tom and Jim Casy are talking to each other, a couple policemen come up to them and hit Casy with a pick handle. After Tom sees Casy hit by the policeman, he gets angry and hits the policeman himself. He is then hit by the policeman and eventually disperses. The Joads go and work on a cotton farm. While working on the cotton farm, the Joads live in a boxcar. The area gets flooded a week or two later and Rose of Sharon delivers a stillborn baby. She puts the baby into a coffin and sends him/her down a river.

Analysis
The theme in this section is man?s inhumanity to man. ?The heavy man swung with the pick handle.? The policeman attacks Jim Casy, then Tom hits the policeman, and the policeman hits Tom.
There is a lot of imagery used in this section. ?The heavy club crashed into the side of his head with a dull crunch of bone.? That was part of Steinback?s descriptive interaction between Tom, Jim Casy, and the policemen. The text that Steinbeck uses creates a harsh image. ?Cunch of bone? is a cacophony of the confrontation.
There is foreshadowing in this book when Mrs.. Sandry says, ?The babies of sinners are born dead and bloody.? This foreshadows Rose of Sharon?s still born baby.

Glad to see you studied the Cliff Notes! j/k

While you did take me back 15 years to highschool english (I didn't know it at the time, but life was so easy then), certainly you must have a better place to transfer documents than a public message board?

Sure you hope you have someone check that over for you. Grammar is important! Also, there are a few typos, etc. that need to be corrected.
