Hello all,

I was having a conversation about windows hosting on WHT when Yash-JH invited me to join these forums to further discuss my wishes and concerns.

I've been monitoring JodoHost for quite some time. I believe you are offering really great packages. I'm a software engineer (well nearly... doing my last year @ university)
and some of the features are really interesting: both linux and windows, ORACLE db, PgSQL, mysql and mssql ....

I would love a resell package as I could resell it to a few fellow students. They would also love the features available here for development work we are doing.

Although, I live in Europe (Belgium) and so will probably be all my "costumers" as well.

One of my most major concerns when I buy an additional hosting package, is the network performance and latency for users from Europe to US-based Servers.
When I ping the jodohost main website, I get about an average of 134 ms with a TTL of 110. I find this a bit too much.

I have currently a few hosting packages located on the East Coast (NAC) where I get an average of 95 ms with a TTL of 51.
My download speeds on these servers are good to medium.

Thus my question:
do you have IP's and download testfiles I could test/ping/trace ?
since most of my "costumers" will be from belgium and quite demanding when it comes to network performance, I need to be sure the servers will do fine for european based costumers.

Additionally, when are you planning to support the new .NET 2.0 framework for ASP.NET 2.0 ?
as soon as the release (somewhere in november) ? or are you first going to test its stability ? if so, how long would you think it will take ? (I'm asking this as I'm now only using and testing ASP.NET 2.0)

also, what about TomeCat for java ? do you support it ? or is this a service I would need to install myself on the VPS account?

a vps of 64 MB (on litehost) is that enough ??? I'm a little doubtfull about that ...

on the LiteHost one is limited to a maximum of 10 clients right ?
of which 7 are free and thus if I have more I need to buy an additional licence.

I think these are my most urgent and most critical focus points for the moment.

thank you,

Michiel Gedopt

# We have a big client base in EU, and they don't have any problem with speed/performance.
# ASP.NET 2.0 would be available in November.
# We don't have JAVA services. On vps you can install any application.
# vps comes with certain amount of processes and virtual memory. You can buy additional vps resources, if required.
# In LiteHost 7 control panels are free and you can get 3 additional at $0.50/control panel/Month. After 10 control panels you must upgrade to higher plans to use more control panels.

Moreover as a reseller you are covered under 30 days money back guarantee.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

could it be possible to get some server ip's I could ping/trace?
maybe a few download files ?
if not maybe some costumers could tell me about their experiences (or provide a garbage file I could download)

thank you,

thank you

tracing jodohost.com gives me a result of 21 hops
pinging (20 times) jodohost.com gives me avg. 140 ms with TTL=110
downloading this very small file, the speed drops to 120 kb/s (then it finished so I can't know if it would drop even more)

mhhhh 21 hops, that seems a bit too much for european clients who wish a good and fast download speed.

too bad :(

Can you send us the trace from your end. I can reach BBC in 11 hops(ttl=117), Yahoo! UK in 12 hops(ttl=55) and another host in europe in 10 hops(ttl=44) from the server.

here it is....

the time in ms is still quite good
but I deem 21 hops a bit too much...

Just because there are many hops, that's not necessarily bad. It just means many routers. Out of these 21 hops, 14 is sprintlink. The no. of AS paths(different networks) is what matters. It is good here, Belgacom(Your ISP), sprintlink and then Internap(us).

yes I know I have to pass through many routers
but I've experienced that the more hops I have to do, the slower my download speeds get if I have to download file > 20 MB.

also I'm now sceptical users due to previous bad experiences....

but you are right about the sprintlink network because although I have 21 hops, the time of 139 ms is quite alright.

;)

You can signup for a trial and test the things yourself. Maybe you can get downloads tested from various locations for this trial site.

We have many customers from europe - UK, germany, netherlands, france, etc. Have really never heard of complaints about poor transfer speeds.

140ms ping isn't bad at all.
