SSL - only myh$phere.biz?

I've spent ages reading through old threads on SSL and have come to the following conclusions. I'd very much appreciate it if Yash or Stephen would confirm if I'm correct.

1. In my admin account CP I set up a temporary cert. In the CP SSL Manager page I have

Reseller CP alias -- Port number -- IP
cp.myhostingcompany.com -- 443 -- 204.14.108.40

In the Shared SSL Manager section, if I click on the Shared SSL support button to set it to On I get the following error

"SSL cannot be added because there are no shared IP tags available"

So, is there any point in having a temporary cert in my admin account?

If I go to one of my clients accounts and try to set up Shared SSL the only choice from the drop-down list is myh$phere.biz.

If I were to buy a real cert for my service account, would my clients ever be able to use it instead of the myh$phere.biz one?

I'd like to be able to offer a client something like
https://myclient.myhostingcompany.com

Is this impossible ?(

Thank you

A temp. cert behaves just like a real certificate except that it is not signed by a valid authority (Comodo, GeoTrust...). You will also need a dedicated IP for temporary certificates.

When you will access your site through https, you will get a popup about a non-valid authority.

If you mean shared SSL than you can set it up without a dedicated IP and your site will be accessed through blah.my*******.biz (you won't have the little lock at the bottom of your browser I believe).

Thanks Dave - I understand what you are saying. I was just hoping that by setting up the temp cert on my Admin account I'd see myhostingcompany.com in the drop down list allong with myh$phere.biz. The pop-up about a non-valid authority wouldn't be an issue with the site I had in mind.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.
