stats contradiction

for April 2005, Awstats gives me 10,253 visits, but Webalizer gives me 21,376.

quite a difference - who to believe?

yea this has been seen before.

i think the result was awsstats is better when its working 100%, im not sure though.. if you do a search you'll find it. was within the past few months.
 
I believe that is right, it is hits vs unquie visitors, I have noticed this on one of my sites as well.
 
no, AWstats has both - unique visitors AND visits, and the one i mentioned, was from the [yellow] 'visits' column.

yeah the stats are crazy.. i also have using my own script to compare.. and they are all way different...

and the bandwidth measurement on both is absurd!
 
basically, awstats, webalizer and any 3rd party stats tool you use would analyze the same log files.

Any difference would be due to difference in how they interpreted the logs. So I guess you can believe any tool you trust better
