Subdomain Alias

I have a subdomain named portal.mydomain.net. I want to have an alias named portal.mydomain.org point to the same place. Do I just go into the configuration for my subdomain and create an alias for portal.mydomain.org? I want all mydomain.org to map directly to mydomain.net. Clarification on the best way to do this would be appareciated. Thanks.

Hi

simple create mydomain.org as a domain alias of mydomain.com. You can do that by clicking on your domain from the CP. On the bottom of the Domain Configuration page, you will see an option to add domain aliases

I believe this would also create aliases for the sub domains. If not, let me know. I'll check this up for you.

Thanks for the reply Yash. I did this but it is not working with the subdomain. mydomain.org goes to mydomain.net just fine, but portal.mydomain.org gives me a plain white "under construction" page and says, "The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded." I did a tracert to mydomain.org to make sure it is going to your servers and it is.

Unfortunately, there is no support for the functionality you are looking for. I recommend that you create mydomain.org as a separate domain (not alias) and have it as well as the sub domain redirect to mydomain.net and portal.mydomain.net respectively.

Thats not a problem. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll do a URL redirect.

Hi,

I just want to add to this thread what happened to me.

I was trying to set up a new web site on my Windows 2000 server and I was receiving that same error message.

After a few days my ISP took a look and found that under the web site properties/advance/hostheadername section; I had a space after the host header name EX? www.zyz.com(space) and this was the cause of the error.

He removed the space and the site immediately came up.

This was such a simple mistake but a very hard one to find.

I hope this information proves helpful to anyone that might have the same problem in the future.
