I sent a ticket in yesterday (Saturday, the 14th) when my transaction log, which seemed fine for quite a while, especially during a very heavy period when traffic went up exponentially for about a month, suddenly reached its limit (of 10MB) and generated a log full error on the site. Traffic on the site has gone down considerably to more "usual" levels in the past two weeks. Before the move 2 weeks ago it used to be 4 MB. So I don't know why it became a problem all of a sudden yesterday. Anyway, support said "The transaction logs will be created if the databse is online. You cannot just delete them or truncate them. You have to set the data/transaction file ratio to an optimum percentage. If possible try to back them up,and after that empty them, they may be sometimes very handy."
Before contacting support I increased the transaction log by 50% (to 15 MB) so my site could function again. I figured I'd see how that works. My log has now gone up by 4 MB in one day. I'm not sure what's causing it to grow when there isn't a whole lot of database activity anymore. I tried backing up the database, but I get error messages about not having access to MSDB or something, but it also says the backup worked anyways, but the backup status in H-Sphere says no backup was done. And I also have no idea how to empty the Log even if the backup worked.
I did a search on this subject in this forum, and may or may not have come up with a solution. I used to have Shrink enabled, but I guess after the move a couple weekends ago, that got reset. Shrink is now enabled, but I don't know when it should shrink. I only have 1 MB of Transaction Log room left. I don't understand why it wasn't a problem at 4 MB, but seems to be at 10 and now 15 MB.
Do I just keep increasing the Log size so I don't run out of room? I changed it several hours ago.
Thanks!
