Transfer Log - Unix

Hello,

Does the transfer log in unix just keep on adding to itself or does it daily save itself and start a new file?

I think it saves itself daily and leaves it it as a compressed .gz file, but you can't easily tell what day it represents by the file name.

Can someone help clear up the mystery of the naming?

Thanks

You are right on the first part, I don't know the answer to the naming portion, I am asking for a unix tech to let me us know.

I was just asked another question... can you make it only show the keep the current day or only 1 day in the past? Or do they have to simply keep deleting them?

I know this is an old post, but was wondering if someone could help clarify some of my questions:

1a. Just so I'm clear, the transfer log is what Webalizer uses to compile its statistics right? (But AWStats uses it's own internal one)?

1b. And just to clarify even more, that means if I turn OFF the transfer log, then Webalizer won't work, right?

2. Does the Windows transfer log have the same behavior as the Unix one, i.e. 7 days rotating, last 6 days zipped?

Thanks for any input on this.

I will answer what I know.

7 days yes, last six days zipped, no, all 7 days raw logs only.
