Hi,
I am using the litehost plan for some websites and tried to test VPS.
However the processes for litehost are limited to 10. When I try to do something with the VPS I run very quickly into problems due to the process limit.
To illustrate:
- I created a VPS plan and one account in it. The number of maximum processes was on 15 in Hsphere, which is 5 more than allowed. After vps-init was done and gateway was set (by jh support) I could login trough ssh. System looks like working fine, however some simple commands like "man ps" generated fork errors, which points to process limit.
And even I did not install or configure ANY application yet!!!
After I stopped manually some services (sendmail, syslogd) the manual pages are working. But when trying to do anything with an application I run immediately into the proces limit problem.
- Also when I set in m****here controlpanel the limit on 10 my vps is even not reachable through ssh (also cannot fork process). So with the maximum nr of processes (10) I can not do anything with my vps !
- I also looked into psoft and freevps documentation, and there is stated that for minimum vps install you need at least 15-20 processes. And to run applications (like ftpd, httpd etc) you need some more of course.
So my question is not a support-question, but a sales question in fact: why you have a 10-process vps-limit on litehost? In fact with 10-process you cannot do anything! Probably you have to increase the limits to offer litehost-customers at least the possibility to do something with their vps account.
Or is there anyone who can give me advices how to setup a very basic vps, (with ftp-server, http-server/apache support and some cron functionality) within the 10-process limit?
