MSSQL Problems Continue

I know you guys are working hard but these updates are still not going smoothly. Some of my client sites are still unable to connect to the DBs after the MSSQL11 maintenance starting early this morning. The connection strings are generating the following errors:

- [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

- Unspecified error

I cannot connect to MS SMS still either and get the following error:

TITLE: Connect to Server
Cannot connect to 173.0.xxx.xxx,xxxx.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10060)

I have been on live chat and submitted a ticket (#501020 - MSSQL11 Migrations) at 5 AM this morning. I also have not seen a reply to my previous forum question about the MSSQL upgrade and what, if anything I need to do. I am supposed to be on vacation so this is really bad timing for me and my wife is not happy. Please update me on the status of this ASAP. Thanks!

MSSQL11 is a complex and complete upgrade, not just service packs, will have it checked out for you now. There are some that are having some errors in the upgrade process which is making a bit of an issue.

The forums are NOT THE proper place for ticket escaltions, especially when we are very busy like now, I simply do not have time to check it all the time, and when I do I have to also delete a plehtora of spam that gets past the anti spam engine (its almost useless). helpline AT jodohost.com is the correct place to escalate as it goes to on shift managers and myself, ceo etc too this goes to my phone, which I check much more often than the foums.

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for your reply! If I need to do anything, let me know, although I can't do anything without MS SMS working. Please keep me updated and I will try to give it some time.

It should be going now, we found an error in the firewall rules that were blocking your connection. It looks to have been an oversight unfortunately :(

At the time you sent the ticket, the server wasn't quite up yet then, but came up about 40 minutes later, but the firewall kept it from going live for your site.

Seeing some login errors on some of the databases that should be online, and working on verifying and checking their login associations, seems like some of them did not get linked up properly (login to db link)

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for the replies! All the sites seem to be functioning as expected now! There was a schema issue and an external access issue from another server but both seem fixed now. I did have to update the IP address on a site for external DB access, to the same as what is used for MS SMS, as noted by Bhupendra in my support ticket

If I remember correctly, previously there was a specific IP for MS SMS and another for other external access. It's working now with the MS SMS IP/port but I'm curious if this will change again. If so, do you know when, so I can be prepared to update the site?

One more thing to note: when accessing MSSQL11 via MS SMS, I now see all the other DBs on that server but I cannot open them. Before the recent updates, I could only see my DBs. I think it was like this on a previous version of MS SQL server but 2005 only showed me my DBs. If possible, this should be fixed for general security reasons as well.

Thanks again for all the help and for getting the DB server back up fairly quickly!
