Email again...

bro

Perch
Sorry for reopening this thread, but I'm unclear on an important point.

When I tried to send mail late today to one of the affected accounts, the mail was returned as undelivered. This is not a disaster (from my point of view). At least those contacts know that the mail was not delivered, and will mostly retry.

Was this the case all day, or did some mail disappear without an 'undelivered' notice being returned? I need to know if I should email all my contacts to ask that any of today's mail be resent. I also need to let my hosting customers know this information.

Yash, since the issue was supposable "fixed 100%" i have sent numerous test emails to a certain account (the in-famous OFF mail service account) and i have been checking via webmail - the emails DEFINITELY did not get thru,
and at the same time - i DEFINITELY did NOT get a bounce message.

i also have a couple of tickets open on the topic.

Snooper, your tickets do standout with the capitalization

Tanmaya is already working on them..

Your case stands out as a single unfortunate case. I do appologize for it as I appologized for it before

Problems happen, we've never had a serious mail issue like this but lesson have definately been learned and we will never allow a repeat

Tanmaya replied to your ticket. Says there was no issue at all. Sent a test email from gmail to you which was received properly. Also doublechecked the logs

yes, just received Tanmaya's reply.
as i said - i dont have any bounce messages to give Tanmaya, so i guess that does give you the right to call me crazy, then.

as for the caps - well, it did the trick then!

and as for the "single unfortunate case" as you mentioned, Yash, i hope you take that into account when you read the emails i sent to the helpline a few minutes ago. if it arrived. in fact - pls confirm its receipt.

All your email services are 100% fine snooper. Try sending test emails yourself

We have received your email. I'll get back to you personally later when I have had some sleep. Billing will compensate you during office hours

All email services are at 100%

I think JodoHost has done a good job in recovery here although I am upset over this happening during day time

I had a similar issue with another host that last almost 24 hours.

I agree with Yash that this is the first time email has been affected at JodoHost but I hope you guys are looking into how to prevent anything like this again

And I agree with bro. Since everyone that was emailing me received a bounce back, most have retried and the emails I expected have been received. Some even called me to inform me about the issue so it wasn't like email is being lost or anything

I learned an important lesson, too. Give your customers a support email address that isn't on the same mail server as theirs...

Those emails were lost, since when the email server is down there's nowhere for them to bounce back to (mails go to the return address, not the ISP account they really sent the mail from). I found out about this late in the day only because my mail PC went offline and the phone started ringing.

Edit: Got to correct that. The test mails that I sent to myself at the JH address were bounced back overnight, so even they weren't lost. A bit late for 'cries for help', but at least my customers can see I wasn't just ignoring them...

but what about your clients' customers? or someone trying to ask your client's sales dep a question? i certainly wouldnt take a company seriously if their sales email bounced back.

if it were just my own email - i wouldnt be too worried, its only because i have to worry about all my clients' emails too ...

I think most people have had mail returned for legitimate reasons before, and understand that it generally isn't the fault of the person or company they're mailing.
If it happens more than once or for an extended period, then I would certainly wonder if the company I'm dealing with is credible. Normally I'd just blame the usual gremlins in the works.

I think JH knows now that we have had a problem with mail and that we and our customers have suffered. Now it's up to them to find a solution to not let this happen again and somehow to make us and our customers happy again.
Complaining about the past doesn't help anybody nor does it change what happened yesterday.

The ball is in JH's park now.

Ton.
