spam problems...

The spam levels here seem to be REALLY high. and this is even though we have set the filter to the maximum.

what else can be done about this?

support suggests to blacklist ever domain that spams... not only would that take hours every week - its also not very effective.

how do you guys deal with this issue?

[we never had this much at the previous host.]

Your host doesn't determine how much spam you receive, the exposure your email address has to spammers determines that

The filtering employs spamassasin which uses some (outdated) rules and spamcop to filter emails. That is pretty much the standard filtering offered by alot of webhosts unless they include more aggressive blacklists like SPEWS (which we feel block alot of genuine hosts)

If you feel filtering is not working at all, try disabiling and enabiling it and submitting a ticket.

What we could do at JodoHost is say open a forum here where customers report spam and we block them globally. If you like that, I could do it

how do you guys deal with this issue?

I use a client-based Bayesian filter (SpamBaye, iirc). It does a really good job of filtering for me, although the obvious issue is that when I check my email via the web I see everything.

thanks!

btw - this is the latest reply i got from support, for everyones benefit -

Your issue relates to an Hsphere bug. The "Very Agressvive" and the "Remove" options both do not get applied when selected. You have to select some other options to fix the problem.

You cannot use either of those options. You may achieve similiar functionality by creating a dummy mailbox which "discard all incoming mail" and move all spam mails to this mailbox.

We have been working with the developers on it as there are a few domains/users that seem to be having the described issue.

OK, now I know why my very aggressive filter on my mailbox didn't appear very aggressive either :)

I guess I'll submit a support ticket as well next time ;)

Yash - you have to know who to speak to... ;)
the first reply from Support wasnt very helpful, only when Tanmaya later came in, i got that info.
