Creating Name Servers

Hi,

I am trying to set up my reseller account and I am having difficulty. I have got as far as step 3 - DNS Zone propagation:

"In order for your name servers and DNS zone to work, you must create these name servers with the Domain Registrar you have registered your dns zone domain with."

I have my domain registered directly with Nominet in the UK (the UK registrar - I am a tag holder). I don't think they allow me to create my own name server with them. So what do I do?

Many thanks,

Dan.

I have no idea how nominet is laid our all I have found is this:
1. Select the Manage Domains section.
2. Select the domain name you wish to amend the nameserver information on
3. In the Name Servers: section enter your new Name Server as follows:

ns.domain.co.uk (space) IP address
e.g
ns1.mydomain.co.uk 192.100.100.110

Do you have anything resembling this? Note that IP is a sample, use the IPs as listed in the EManager section of your reseller control panel.

Thanks Stephen.

I thought I had to actually set up a name server... I'm getting confused about this.

Would you be able to look at: http://www.nominet.org.uk/tag/auto/fields/#individual

Nominet doesn't use a web control panel - changes are made to the domain record directly using email. So in this case, if I set the dns fields to e.g:

dns0: dns.xxxx.co.uk 204.14.104.xxx
(IP address as quoted in my E. Manager), will this work?

Thanks!

Dan.

when i set name servers for my .co.uk domain i did it that way and worked fine

thats correct in otherwords

Thanks for the reply!

I thought that I needed a DNS server to resolve dns.myresellerdomain.com into the actual IP address provided by my JodoHost E.Manager....

So if I do it as suggested above, what do my customers use for their DNS server address? Presumably, if they just put dns.myresellerdomain.com there still won't be anything out there to resolve it?

Does this make sense?

Dan.

i am also a Tag holder

say i have Domain: domain.co.uk

in nominet you need to set a record of ns.domain.co.uk IP Address

that will then glue the ip address to the ns.domain.co.uk

then all you do is tell your clients to set domains nbame servers to point to

ns.domain.co.uk

you do the same for ns2, ns3, ns4

and then you are done

So in effect, Nominet are acting as the DNS server for your domain.co.uk?

Excellent! Thanks so much.

Actually they are not the DNS server, they just create the glue at the root servers for you, it won't work wihtout them doing so :)
