DSpam - when and how

I haven't seen much talk about dspam lately.
Has everyone been switched to it.
If not, when can we expect to be switched over.. any estimate would be nice.

Is there a quick tutorial or pdf, as I saw mentioned in another thread, with instructions so we can read and pass to our customers.

If there is an announcement about this that I've missed please point me to it. I did search the forums but seems like it hasn't been talked about for about a month now.

Thanks
Dm

I have a question on this.

Is there any way we can send DSpam some ham to help it train? I sent a few via a support ticket but is there a better, more automated way?

DSpam seems to be working pretty well but false positives are causing my clients some pain. Its often hard to see why some of the messages are caught.

As always, I know there is no perfect spam filter.

No, only three servers are using dspam at the moment. They are mail4, mail5 and mail6.
Since dspam is almost transparent there are no explicit instructions required at the moment. Your clients can use the standard anti-spam options in the control panel for blacklisting/whitelisting/disabeling/enabling antispam.
We are going to setup a new dspam gateway for mail1 and mail3. ETA will be posted soon.

If we pass on control to users, the dspam learning database will be polluted quickly and it will fall sharply on accuracy. Also, per-user preferences will need multiple servers per mail-server or two for reliable performance under our kind of load. These are among few reasons on why we aren't offering it.

But we are accepting any false positives via tickets to train dspam. Here we selectively train dspam to avoid possible pollution(that can be caused by any automated solution).
While dspam seems to be performing well, we do plan to include extra hands for training it in near future.

Has there been any updates as far as when the other mail servers will get DSpam. I believe I'm on mail3.

How are the filtering results been so far.

Is there any place this info is posted.

Thanks

Mail3 is now on DSpam; Great!

From reading various posts, I understand that Dspam does not delete mail by itself and that it uses the spamassassin settings in the control panel.

Questions:
  1. Are there any recommended Spam Check Level settings now that we?re on DSpam?
  2. We should report false positives via a ticket?
  3. We should add false positives to the domain?s whitelist?
  4. Are emails still going to be marked with *****SPAM***** in the subject?
  5. The MaxScore level ? it deletes spam regardless of the email processing settings?
  6. If MaxScore level is set at ?undefined? is it turned off?
Thanks,
Kerri

Believe me you're gonna HATE DSpam.....

#1, it just gives everything 20 spam points.
#2. It tells you NOTHING about why
#3. It IGNORES your Whitelist!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While it does delete spam, it throws the baby out with the bathwater.....I'm spending MORE time going through my Spam folder looking for legitimate messages than I EVER did deleting spam.........

And finally, it creates an attachment out of the email, so you are prevented from dealing with it normally. You can't reply to an attachment for example......

I just want to know one thing. How do I turn it OFF, and go back to the previous spam control..........z

I just thought of something else......when you 'train' this monster, are you training it with particular emails, or are you at least only telling it that a spam email that has multiple recipients is spam?

At any rate the lessons it's 'learning' are making a psychopath out of it.............z

Just ask support to remove dspam and they will do so for you.
Overall, the results have been very positive so far. We use exactly the same system for jodohost, i get very little false positives and my mailbox is very clean

Yash,

What do you have your antispam settings at?

Is there a User Manual or a sticky I should know about regarding DSpam?

thanks,
Kerri

Right........it would be nice to be able to read something about it and maybe adjust some settings......z

There ya go......pain..........lol............

Maybe people haven't realized yet how many legitimate emails are getting flagged.........It took ME awhile to realize what was going on.........and not using the WhiteList is the ultimate sin......z

I have more and more troubles with this dspam thingy.
It even mark mails from same domain as spam.
Not to mention half of emails are not coming thru.
My clients get very pissed caused of this. I hate it!!!

I understand the issues here and to get it removed it as easy as creating a ticket with the domain name. The better way, IMHO is to provide me with complete messages that has been incorrectly marked as spam and let me train the system, so you dont have to worry about getting such mails blocked in future and also keep your mailbox free from spam.
Any anti-spam system will need minimal efforts to better suit our needs and this is what we all have to do here.
To start with, change the spam action to "Mark as spam" so no one atleast misses an email and also you can provide us these mails and we will let the system know the mistake.
I was suppose to work on a minimal guide that i haven't been able to yet due to some high priority tasks i'm involved in these days. But will try to get atleast a minimal version out as soon as possible. It will be just a collection of what i have said in multiple places on this forum and the FAQ, etc.

Tanmaya,
Yesterday i submit a ticket asking to put few of domains to dspam whitelist. Those domains are main isp-s in my country and many business emails are coming from those domains.
Support answer was, that they cant do it and i need to put those domains to whitelist in CP.

Thanks
Tom

Tom, there is nothing like whitelist in dspam. This is why we were forced to use hybrid approach than using a purely dspam-based setup.

Here are some examples of what DSpam is flagging:

1. Order confirmations from things I've bought.

2. Personal emails from friends.

3. Emails from addresses in my WHITELIST.

Others here are also upset about this DSPAM nightmare:

If we submit a ticket to remove dspam, will we at least have the spam control from before??////

Here is what i found out:
Dspam is flagging mails from same domain if you have SMTP servers set to your provider. Change SMTP to mail.yourdomain.com and port 587.

Next i was missing a lot of emails from some domain on one email box. I deleted and recreated box and emails start coming and no problem since then. Strange huh!
