Getting reports on 204.14.107.174 within the last few hours:
and the IP was already changed
We are developing a script that autochanges IPs upon listing.. This is what some Hsphere hosts are doing immediately to handle this ridiculous problem. SpamCOP has got VERY VERY aggressive in the last few days.
We will be going ahead with disabling autoresponders once we have an alternative system in place. That is really the only permanent solution to this issue.
We are also considering having a spam filter inbetween the mail server and incoming traffic.. that does some sort of sender verification… But this would be a procedure that involves a change of MX records and we are considering whether its worth it
we’ve installed an auto-switch script to swap out listed IPs within 4 minutes..
This will give us a HUGE immediate relief while we formulate a strategy to permanently resolve this issue.

At this stage, I’d say even charging for this service is worth it. I just lost yet another client over spam complaints and my tally has now reached over 100 per day on most accounts. Note that these addresses have NEVER been posted on the web and have NEVER been used for any type of online submission whatsoever…
While client-side filters do catch 99% of this crap, I’d just as soon have the server take care of it. As long as it’s an opt-in it should suit everyone’s needs. The current anti-spam is totally worthless. Some accounts have been set to VERY AGRESSIVE and clearly obvious spam with spoofed multiple to addresses and viagra/rolex/cialis/porn subject lines continue to get through…

That IP does not belong to us. Can you give me more detail? Are you trying to receive email and the sender is getting this message from our server?

What SMTP server are you using… your jodohost ones or your ISP’s?
as far as I am aware the client is using the correct jodohost one which is mail.parvilalgarve.co.uk? I have set this up with Jodohost via my reseller account if that makes a difference?
Why what are you thinking?
The IP address 193.252.22.156 seems to belong to wanadoo.co.uk - which is a mobile provider - this makes me think that they are using an different SMTP server (or going through mobile???)
Just digging around to try and help.
Penhall, no thanks for the help anything is useful! I noticed that it said Wannado as well. They are a broadband provider in the UK (if you did not know).
I will double check that the client is sending through the correct SMTP server.
How could he be sending his mail from that email address but be going through a different SMTP server, wouldnt it just fail to send at all?
Depends on the server setting… some servers use authentication (like JodoHost) so that only valid users can send mail through them - and not spammers who look for open smtp servers.
Many ISPs ONLY allow you to use their servers to protect against SMTP servers on client pc’s being hijacked and using up bandwidth as rougue SMTP servers. They block all traffic on PORT 25 (standard for SMTP traffic) except through their own SMTP servers. (edit - boy I used the word servers a lot in that paragraph!)
Many hosting companies - including JH - offer “alternate” smtp ports so you can still use your hosted SMTP servers under this condition. (I have to use the alternate SMTP port with my broadband provider as they don’t allow any non-provider port 25 access)
Cheers
so for your SMTP email account you send on a port other than port 25? Which port do you use? Where do you set this up? Could you send me a copy of your outlook settings obviously edited so I can see what I have to set up?
I just have no idea why the spam cop error is coming through still if it is not a jodo ip address.?(
Heya
I don’t use Outlook but Thunderbird but basically set your outgoing SMTP port to mail.whateverdomainyouuse.com, make sure authentication is on with the same username and password as POP/IMAP – you have to go to advanced I think and change the SMTP port to 587 - if someone has Outlook in front of them they may be able to give detailed instructions.
Actaully, just did a quick google and came up with http://www.gmpservices.com/support/outgoing.e.mail.blocked/66/Changing.the.default.SMTP.Port.to.bypass.ISP.port.25.block.outgoing.mail.block.aspx
(just use 587 instead of their 366 instructions)

Yash,
What’s the latest on this issue? Many of my clients have legitimate reasons for using autoresponders (recipient is on a business trip, on holiday etc.) and would like continued use of this facility, especially if the new service doesn’t result in a SpamCop blacklisting.
I’ve already asked my clients, and they don’t care if the interface to set up the autoresponders is not built into H-Sphere. Perhaps it can be added as an option on the “Email Utilities” web page that appears when customers go to mail.domain.com?
Can we get the new service up and running before the Christmas and New Year holiday period?
Thanks.
Re: Autoresponders [Re: spamcop listed!!]
atm, we are continuing with inbuilt support for autoresponders. For the moment, we have dropped that idea
