Dedicated to Shared IP - Is is safe to change?

Hi!

I made a big, big mistake and almost killed myself: I changed my dedicated IP address to a shared IP and ignored the warning of up to 24h of downtime. ;(

Ok, I'm still alive and now trying to cope with this situation. The thing is: should I do anything else to see my site again, hehehe, or just sit and wait?

When I ping "domain.com" I see the new IP, but when I ping "www.domain.com" then it comes the old loved IP.

And when I try to access "domain.com" a dialog box appears asking my username and password. Is this right?

Thanks for any help,
Cheers,
Emiliano.

No need to worry :) Your site will be available to a majority of visitors except you due to ISP caching.

What you stated is normal during DNS propogation.

Try running this command to speed things up (although it might not help)

ipconfig /flushdns

But this won't help if your ISP is caching the old IPs. If you are using broadband, you can change your network card's DNS settings to use our DNS servers instead of your ISP's.

Ok, I ran ipconfig /flushdns and now I see the new IP address.
:)

The only thing now is the dialog box asking for username and password.

It's just wait, right?

Regards,
Emiliano.

Hello,

Yes the system takes just a little bit to change all the DNS, if the problem is still around in an hour or two you may want to send a ticket.
