htaccess DLL disabled

We had to disable the directory password protection feature on Win5 and Win6 due to a suspected issue with its DLL (htaccess.dll) where sites randomly go offline with authorisation denied errors

The directory password protection feature was a new feature introduce in Hsphere 2.4 by PSOFT. This DLL has a known history of creating problems and we feel that the stability of our servers is more important than this feature

Please note however that we are carefully monitoring these servers after this move and if we determine htaccess was not responsible, it would be re-enabled. PSOFT continually updates their software and we are confident they'll resolve this issue soon so its not a permanent feature-loss

Customers who need password protection for directories can ask for it to be done manually by opening a support ticket. But please note that this may not be possible in all cases
