I really need an authoritative answer for this

This is driving me nutty. I have two packets here, one of which says "Puppodums" and the other says "Papadams", and I'm sure I've seen other variations.

What is the real, authentic spelling for those lovely crispy edibles? I've just made a lentil & chickpea dahl but I can't relax until I know this one thing! Help!
 
Neeraj told me he would call it a papad, but he thinks both names you gave are correct as well.
