I'm assuming you are looking to improve your search engine ranking?

There are a ton of ways to do this (although it seems to change almost on a monthly basis). You mentioned the links issue. Definitely put a link on a forum that is being googled (like JH)...that REALLY helps.

Also I read that blogs really seem to be helping lately as well.

Maybe just start a blog regarding and everyone who participates has a blog of their own which is all interlinked. That would really help provided you don't do any tricks to get banned.

Just a thought, it would be interesting to see if it works.
 
Yeah I've noticed some of the good developers with kick ass page rank have sites that blog. Anyone have any clue how a blog works? Is there a preferred application for it? I've been to blogger.com but I don't get exactly how it works.
