Nedd gmail Account

When are they releasing gmail to the "public" anyway. Seems silly, EVERYBODY has a gmail account and EVERYBODY can invite 50 other somebodys. Seems public already.
 
It's a publicity stunt... and it worked very well. I suspect when they finally do release it to the public, they will just throw the switch quietly and not even announce it. That's what they have always done in the past and it works very well for them.
 
they're using invites as marketing hype. And also to control the amount of users being added in the early weeks of beta to ensure that there are no performance issues.
