Very Slow FTP in FrontPage and Expressions

Hi, as a FP user since 98 I have always used the server extensions and http for uploading sites. Now due to the demise of the extensions I'm starting to use FTP. However, there has always been the problem with very slow FTP speeds in FP (any version) and even with the new (MS got it right this time) Expressions web design. I can usually only get 1KB transfers using FTP compared to 10KB+ in HTTP.

Does anyine have a solution (apart from pleading with Psoft to include Share Point in Hsphere - if possible??)

FTP is also so limited in other areas, ie it won't do: "don't publish a file", "show hidden files and directories", remember the FTP user ID and password, etc etc.

Any solutions?? ideas?? apart from a stand alone FTP client or moving to Dreamweaver.

Cheers

I wonder if the FTP transfer is actually slow or is it because FP or EWD is still trying to do a FP publish type action where it gets a directory listing of all files so that it can figure out which files have changed. That has got to be slow on FTP if its doing it recursively.

FWIW, there is a very nice free FTP client add-on to FireFox.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for that. but naaa, FP & EWD still take forever to do the directory listings. It is when it is transfering the files that the speed is just pathetic @ 1k

Hi Dennis,

FrontPage extensions will still be supported on Windows servers for quite awhile. If you would rather use http:// to publish..you could consider Windows servers.

As far as using ftp goes..when I do use it I always use a different client than the included ones.
