Sql2005 -> Sql2000?

I'm currenty on SQL2005 Server, but am considering moving here. Unfortunately I see Jodohost uses SQL2000 Server. Can a SQL2005 database be "downgraded" to SQL2000 compatibility? Are there any special requests I need to make of my current host when asking for a backup of my database that would assist Jodohost in performing this migration/import of my databases into your SQL2000 environment?

If it's this hard to get a pre-sales question answered (IE, *before* I give you my money), one has to wonder how difficult it is to get support after the fact.

Even so...some other posts I've read lead me to believe that Jodohost actually uses SQl2005, not 2000. If this is the case the original question won't be an issue.

What version does Jodohost use?
If SQL2000, my original inquiry stands.

The control panel has 2000, we offer for $5 per 50MB access to external(not counted in hpshere quota) SQL 2005.

The reason for delay is so you have proper information, you can create a database in compatilbity mode(level 80) but I am not sure that you can easily convert it to that after it is already in SQL 2005 mode without some issues. If it is already created in SQL 2000 compatible mode we have SQL 2000 SP4 that will read the headers for SQL 2005 properly.

While forums are a good resource, they are NOT checked regularly by sales staff, question here can certainly take longer than via chat or email.

Technical services are a totally different department with different (much more) staff on hand.

The database is currently being used on my existing domains at another hosting provider, and they offer SQL2005. So it looks like I'd have to set up my own 2005 server, import my backup, then DTS/BCP down to a 2000 server before exporting it for Jodohost to import. Man...what a pain. =)

How does that $5/50mb translate into the Reseller program?

And I'm curious about the plan structures. Why would someone go with, say, the "Gold" level Windows Hosting over the "LiteHost" Reseller program?

I'm interested in the LiteHost plan if I'm reading your sales info correctly.

Also, do you allow remote connections to your SQL servers via MS SQL Enterprise Manager, or are we restricted to using the ASP.NET Enterprise Manager or another web based SQL management tool I noticed you suggested to another user in another post?

You can use Enterprise Manager, no problem.

As for reseller, etc, the MSSQL 2005 price is the same for all.

The difference in shared and reseller is in essense, simplicity, with the reseller panel there will be quite a bit more setup than with the shared panel, then you can have accounts and reseller the space, where the gold windows would be more for a single user, having multiple domains, but not needing multiple logins.

Ok, sounding good so far.

The $5/50mb, is that a monthly fee? So essentially $60/yr for access to SQL2005 on top of the annual hosting fees?

Gettin kind of pricey at that point.

Are there any plans to offer SQL2005 as part of the standard hosting packages? I'm not sure I understand why it's offered at an additional charge considering the technology is already 2 years old and most other providers offer it as "standard" instead of the 7 year old SQL2000.

Plans to offer it, yes with Hsphere 3.0, we don't have a set date for that yet however.

Gotcha.

So is it $5/mo on top of the hosting plan fees, or just a straight $5 and SQL2005 is added to the account?

Thanks for the info Stephen.

lol, nice thread so far...

some suggestions for both of you guys.

@Phurion
if you don't use any new sql server 2005-functionality (i.e. common table expressions, paging, new datatypes, encryption...) then you can shovel your 2005-database any time to a 2000-database

@stephen
why is nobody updating your page? specially for these scenarios? possible and paying customers are asking you guys again, and again, and again the same questions. does nobody has the foresight to change the page? i mean: explain that funny situation with sql server 2005 (5/50), also inform the costumers directly that the ms ajax extensions 1.0 are installed and so on. i also think that would bring you more costumers... same with me, i almost went away, because of missing sql server 2005 functionality. also tell the people that they start with ASP.NET 1.1 and not, what the most of us are gessing, 2.0 ('cause of, again, listen, the H*%@E$ panel)! why should a costumer search in the forums for such things? no point!

just my 2 and a half cents..
ernie

ps: speaking of which, why does every service provider has these same very ugly hosting-plan-tables with the same stylesheets?

ernie, you are right, our site is old :D
We have had the same base design with just minor tweaks for a manner of 3 years. While I can't say we are actively designing a new site yet, it is certainly on the todo list, for the whole site to be updated, revamped, and improved.

Would you happen to know of an easier way than DTS/bcp?

As it stands, I'll be waiting until Jodohost offers SQL2005 as part of their base package instead of SQL2000. If there was an easier way for me to port my current db's down to SQL2000, I'd make the jump today. I'm so fed up with my current hosts inability to provide a stable hosting platform that I'm about to just ditch it all and go with a simple "email only" solution somewhere.

Ivan, do you mean you uploaded data from an SQL Server Express 2005 through the Toolkit into a MS SQL 200 database on Jodohost? That might be a handy thing, as I was hoping to use some of the MS Starter Kits and wondered how to do it...
Thanks for the tip!
