Is Linux Really Better Than WIndows

I 'inherited' an account from a former customer who had a commercial WordPress site created. To check it over for problems before I took the account on I put everything on an old domain that I have hosted on a Jodo Windows server. Everything worked fine and dandy.

Since actually accepting the account I have moved it to a Linux server with a dedicated IP address. Since moving to Linux I starting getting 500 errors, Tomcat errors, and failure to establish connections with the db. I realize the db is a different server but somehow I can't seem to be able to work on their catalog without the site going down within a 45 minute to an hour time frame.

Support has been right on top of getting the site back up and running but I am wondering if this is because I'm running it on Linux or not. I know it *should* run better on Linux but my experience so far hasn't been that great.

Anyone have any ideas on how to stabilize WordPress so it will stay up? And what's Tomcat used for anyway?

tomcat is not used at all for wordpress, nor is it on linux servers, I am not sure why you'd get such an error at all...

I've been having similar issues with a Joomla site of mine. Frequent 500 Internal Server Errors. Seems to be related to connectivity with the MySQL server.

I moved away from Windows hosting for my Joomla sites because running PHP/MySQL apps on that platform was more headache than it was worth. Not to mention the lack of mod-rewrite ability.

Good luck getting anyone on the Linux side to help you. Stephen is a champ on the Windows side. Too bad they don't have someone like him on the Linux side.

Every Joomla site I have on linux gets these 500 internal server errors from time to time, occasionally they go down for quite a few hours. The error logs that coincide with outages show cgi-bin errors which seem more like a server configuration error rather than a site related issue, I'm not linux savvy so that is just a guess.

I no longer put any joomla or shopping cart sites on jodo due to the outages experienced since the datacenter moves earlier this year.

We would like to know your domain name or ticket Id, so that we can check out why you are getting the error for that we need some information from your side the domain where you are getting the error or account name where you have these domains.

Please update through PM or Provide us your ticket ID to investigate the issue and find the root cause.

Jodo Support came through again! They worked at it until they discovered a problem with one of the MySQL servers. I followed their instructions on backup and transfer of the SQL and all is working great now.

Good to see that site finally stabilized, you all know how clients are when they can't find their stuff.

Good to see this...that our efforts are making you feel good, gives us a lot of motivation to work harder. Believe me we try our best to get things sorted it's just that some issues are very tricky and to get to root takes up a lot of time.

But we will ensure that we keep working and get you all in the best shape possible. Really appreciate your comments.
Thanks
