Move an entire site from one place to another.

I'm preparing a website using joomla and several extensions, I created a stopgap domain for this. When it is ready, I want to move all the instalation over the other real domain, which is on the same account.

I know that if I download everything by ftp and then reload it to the other directory, I'll lost all the custom directory permissions and the htaccess file will not be copied as well.

How can I copy/move the whole structure from one place to another and preserve the directory permissions ?

what i have done in the past is just make the 'real' domain -- www.yourcompany.com -- an alias in hsphere of your stopgap domain -- yourcompany.xNN.yourhost.com.
Everything else typically works just fine...
Although at first glnce, it might seem an inferior way to do this, I have done this several times without problems.
