need advice: youtube emulation

hey folks

i have a client who wants to copy youtube functionality - ie, users open accounts, upload videos etc.
all this sounds fine.

but i am missing one key piece - how to automatically encode the movie from its source format (wmv, avi etc) into a standardized format for displaying, making sure that it streams well etc.

how could this be done on the fly?

typically flash media encoder is used, one can also use ffmpeg if I am not mistaken.

ffmpeg is not something we offer on shared just telling you in general

are both these technologies available for automatic/on the fly use? Any idea how easy they are to use??

and when you mean not on shared - they are on VPS or managed?

they can be programmed for automated usage.
