Over 20 "Can't connect to MySQL server" from vBulletin per day!

Hi

For the last 45 days I have been regularly getting in excess of 20 emails from vBulletin that it cannot connect to the MySQL database. Anyone having the same problem, is there a fix?

This is the error message:

Help

Though no other complaints in my knowledge for this server, i have done some changes for you. Please let me know how it goes in next 24 hours.

Thanks tanmaya, the site does seem to run faster now, before I had to click Refresh on the browser a few times before the page loads. I remembered that one of your colleage made some changes to the php.ini file, maybe that was the problem?

Anyway, let?s hope whatever you changed fixes the problem :)

Sorry but the problem is back. My forum is used very lightly, at most maybe just 2-3 visitors so I not sure why it is casuing a problem for the server. As you can see from the screen shot below I received 9 e-mails today from vBulletin reporting it could not connect to the database! On Nov 12 I received 46 e-mails.

Is there something wrong with the database server?

I get similar errors from phpBB2 connecting to my db on mysql3. If there's an option for phpBB2 to email me when it has such an error, I don't know how to enable it. From my visits to my own forums, the problem happens a few times for me each day. I have no idea how many times it happens with my customers. Like binaryfish, my forums are rather low-traffic.

SkyPanther,

What errors are you getting? I have been getting mySQL timeouts on mysql3 for several weeks and no one can find the problem... At least someone else is seeing something wrong. Not that I want you to have a problem, but I think it may help the cause if my client was not the only one: http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?p=48182#post48182

Go figure, but I haven't had the error pop up a single time since my posting yesterday. I don't recall the exact error, and whenever it happens I'm in a rush* and don't record it...something about being unable to connect to the MySQL server. I'll record it and post it (in your other thread probably) the next time it happens.

Tim

* The error always seems to pop up when I'm deleting some nasty porn spam on my forums! Don't these folks have anything else to do with their lives besides post nude celeb photos on forums across the net?

I haven't receive anymore database error e-mails from vBulletin for the last 4 days, looks like whatever the problem was its been fixed or has disappeared :D

The changes are indeed done and if effective by any chance, it only point towards some abusive behaviour.
Tim, are you still seeing the errors or no?

I haven't seen an error in about two weeks (since a bit before my last post). Maybe all is well? What does gsaunders say, since I know he was having lots of troubles?

Tim

His client is angry (with all right to be so). We need to give her time to calm down and give Greg some feedback.

Right now I am trying to get in contact with my client so they can start providing feedback again. I think they got ticked and just decided to ignore me a bit... maybe to find another host... don't know. Hopefully I will hear back from them by Wed.

I haven't seen any errors since my last post, but that is just me occasionally checking it.

Looks like the problem is back again X( Can someone tell me what is wrong with the database server? Everything was back to normal after 23 November, now three weeks later my visitors have problems viewing the forum again.

I got 10 "Can't connect to MySQL server" e-mails today.

I have been having the same problem since summer of 2006. My clients are getting angry with me, and it does no good to tell them it's not my fault. Here's my thread: http://support.jodohost.com/php-mysql/8699-mysql-asp-intermittent-connection-issues-3.html#post50249

Stephen has been working on this, but I know he gets busy sometimes. However, this problem is affecting mission critical systems, thus affecting my financial bottom-line. I've got to have this problem resolved, even if it means rolling back a bad upgrade (which is a solution that the jodo-support guys would rather not consider, I'm sure).

Has anyone made any breakthroughs as of yet?

What was the solution? Did it just magically begin working? I wonder why I'm still having trouble. Right now, I am noticing the most errors on MySQL4.

Byron,

Are you getting the same error or something different ? I'd suggest you to once open a ticket with error message and url of your website then we will take care of it and will do all possible to fix this.

The issue my client was happening seem to be due to using Wordpress under Windows which seemed to spawn a lot of PHP processes and a lot of access to mySQL. I switch almost all of her domains over to linux... kind of a long process... and they have not experienced it any more.

There is also a WordPress Caching plug-in that is supposed to greatly reduce the load on mySQL, by only going to mySQL when data has been updated.
