Server Relocation - Wednesday 2AM - 4AM

Dated: Sept 26, 2005

We, as announced earlier, are relocating our servers from our current datancenter to the NAP of Americas datacenter (http://napoftheamericas.net) a few blocks a way. This move involves NO change of actual servers or IP addresses. It is infact simply a point A to point B physical move. The new datacenter is far better equipped to handle our growing needs and providers better network as well as physical infrastructure. International customers can expect lower ping times as well as increased download speeds as more tier-1 networks will be serving our bandwidth as a result of this. For more, please read this: http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?t=5466

The server move will take place in groups between 2AM to 4AM EST, Wednesday 28th. A team of 4 will be on the ground carefully carrying out the shift ensuring no problems whatsoever. There has been a physical network setup between the datacenters (we have a cable setup) to ensure servers are instantly routable when plugged into the new location.

The Outage window will be between 2AM to 4AM, but the expected outage per server would be no longer than 60 minutes. We expect it to be smaller however. Our relay mail server and standard mail servers will be shifted in different groups, to ensure one of them is available to retrieve incoming email during this 1 hour outage time. Also please understand that any mail server retries sending email for at least 2 hours, and hence there is absolutely no question of mail being lost even if there wasn't a relay.

Our website & ticket system will become unavailable during this outage. However we will be giving you email updates througout. If you have an urgent issue during this period, or need information, you can use our phone numbers:

US Numbers:
941-876-6175 (VoIP)
888-289-2246 (Toll-Free)

India Numbers:

We'd like to stress on the fact that this move has been carefully planned, and ONLY involves a 60 minute outage per server during this 2 hour window. Since our IP addresses will remain the same, and so do the servers, you as a customer will have to do NOTHING at your end to ensure your site is running after the move. It is infact a completely transparent process to our customers apart from the brief outage period.

You can also visit www.jodopulse.com, which is a temporary status page hosted off-network and would be available to throughout the outage with updates. It also has a live chat link which you can use to chat with us while our website is down.

Our full support team will be available during these times to answer your chat requests or phone calls. We thank our customers for their cooperation

I regret to inform you that we have had to postpone the shift by 48 hours due to circumstances beyond our control. The roads have apparantely been blocked due to construction work. This could add a significant amount of transit time on the servers, making it impossible for us to meet our less than 1 hour deadline per server. Additionally, we have been informed that the circuit that is suppose to serve our bandwidth at the new datacenter is having issues. While the chances of it breaking down and being unable to serve our bandwidth are remote, we feel that its a risk not worth taking.

The circuit issue will be corrected by this morning, and would be extensively tested. The roads will also reopen tomorrow. Hence we have decided to postpone the shift to Friday, 2AM EDT (GMT - 4). The downtime windows will remain the same - 2AM to 4AM and the outage per server is expected to be less than 60 minutes.

We thank our customers for their continuing cooperation

The Exact outage Windows:

Start Time: Friday, September 30, 2AM EDT (GMT - 4)
End Time: Friday, September 30, 4AM EDT (GMT - 4)
Outage Window: 2 hours
Expected outage per Server: Less than 60 minutes

Big thumbs up for thinking of your customers and thinking forward. Good move and keep up the fine work!

I appologise for the delay. Most servers are up however some are down due to routing issues which are being resolved.

The mail servers are responding slowly due to a mail backlog. May take upto 30 minutes to clear

THe servers that should be up shortly are unix1, unix5, win8, win11, mail3, mssql4

I am very very sorry about this. The shift had been carefully planned infact we had done routing testing the other day. But nothing could ever prepare us for the actual thing.

There has been a major mumbo jumbo with the IPs.. Very unexpected switching issues at the NAP.. We are still on it.. 6 guys.. 4 NOC network engineers

Thanks for the updates Yash, we have faith in you! :)

Was just about to post a ticket about win11... will wait a bit longer. :)

uh... pings from Oz are roughly 30ms more than what they were before the move... hopefully that will come down again when things settle down there?

its going up very shortly.

Also.. the slow connection to the mail servers is due to some serious congestion.. We are working to clear that out.. Should return to normal within the next 15 to 20min
