Upgrading to SQL 2005

Hi,

I just opened a ticket to upgrade my database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. I was told that it can't be done for existing accounts and I'll have to sign up for a new account if I want 2005. Is thisx true? I've been a customer for several years. I do not want to sign up for another account.

Regards,

-Jim

Sadly there is no mechanism built into hsphere to allow SQL server changes like this(MySQL or MSSQL) It isn't a limit we like, but not something we can change :(

ok as an update here:

within 48 hours we are making a special internal account for handling issues like this on cluster1
the workaround will be for us to have a managed sql 2005 account for this, and we can then create a DB for you, and give you login rights and SQL view permissions.
it is not perfect I will freely admit, as it doesn't allow you to edit it yourself, but it will allow you to have SQL 2005 DB and allow us to have management interface to reach it(not doing 100% manually and leaving behind pieces like we have done a few times in past)

Will this work for you? That will mean you still have SQL 2000 within your CP, which you can use if you wish, and SQL 2005 can be made with a ticket and we will reply back with the login info on it.

Will my login have owner rights on the database you create for me? I will need to be able to create tables, stored procedures etc.

If that's the case it sounds like a acceptable solution.

Thanks for your help on this.

That's great. Thanks again for your help on this.

Can you do me one last favor? Would you please let me know when you have the ability to do this set up so that I can open the ticket?

Regards,

-Jim

Yes. I am going to update this topic again when it is done. I am working on making it today, but need to get a little rest first, been a long night, and just learned all my family has the flu(which means I have no desire to visit them now), so weekend plans off now too. I have plenty time for work! :)

LOL. Well don't rush on account of me. Rest and have yourself a nice weekend. You don't want to get yourself sick too. This is by no means an urgent request.

Mail to sales with a CC to support and it will be setup within 24 hours, the reason for sales is basically for accounting they wanted me to specify this one thing:
As long as you have available DBs it will be free, if it is extra DBs it will be $2 each + looking at your available disk space for extra(but if you have free DBs and free space, there is no issue)

Thanks. The only issue I see is that I'm currently using my one available DB. Once the new DB is set up I'd be transfering the data to the new database and I could delete the current one.

Stephen,

I wanted to thank you for taking care of this for me. I opened the ticket and the database was created for me quickly and I'm now up and running on SQL 2005. Attention to issues, no matter how small the issue or customer, is one of the reasons I'm still with Jodohost after 6 years.

Regards,

-Jim
