So let me see if I get the announcements correctly. As a reseller, if I create a new windows account, it should show up on 2.0, and there will be no charge?
I see various statements in the announcement claiming that the reseller will be charged $0.50 per domain AND that resellers will NOT be charged for $0.50 per domain … … ..

As a reseller your all new windows customers will be on a server that has .NET 1.1 and 2.0. While 1.1 is by default, changeover to 2.0 will cost $0.50/domain/Month.
As Yash mentioned, reseller can pass on this cost to their customers.

Thanks for the info, this comes as a major disappointment. I guess I will have to wait to see if this becomes free or not. I wish the price was mentioned before release to give customers a chance not to get their hopes up and transfer elsewhere.
Edit: And before anybody post anything. I was the one who was waiting for 2.0. And No, I am not leaving Jodohost.
Its only 50 cents. Skipping one trip to Starbucks will cover that. If it costs Jodo 50 cents more thats fine with me, they are still the best deal out there.

i must say it is a little dissappointing. charging customers for an upgrade that is kind of meant to happen. Upgrades of hardware and software in the computer industry happens all the time. When php5 comes into swing, will that be charged for too?
Whilst I do appreciate that its a new technology, and you have worked hard to make this available to customers who asked for it. I can kind of see the reasoning for a monthly charge, until 2.0 becomes standard, but i still dont think that its a good thing.
However, I dont understand the $10 transfer fee. After all its not the customers fault that they are not on a server that supports 2.0. How can some customers be “let off” the fee, and some not. That doesnt seem quite fair. Either it should apply to all, or not to my way of thinking.
Im not an asp user so not to bothered bout this. However, im sure resellers would find it inappropiate to charge a customers $10 as well as a monthly charge just becuase a client wishes to use an upgrade.

$10 transfer fees is for moving windows hosting account from ASP.NET 1.1 server to ASP.NET 1.1 + 2.0 server.

the point i was trying to make earilier was that I can understand charging for a transfer of servers per customer request. But not when a customer is only wishing to make use of the services which you provide. It is not the customers fault that the server which they are currently on does not support what they require. In this case, .net 2.0.
It is also not jodo’s fault either. I totally understand your position here, but I just think its a bit, erm, i dont know, just a bit, not right to offload this to a customer.

We were not charging in the past, but given the large number of transfer requests we expect to receive, we have started this fee.
As for the $0.50/mo fee for .NET 2.0, we will be revising this and its not a permanent fee.

To justify the transfer fees, ASP.NET 2.0 is not included in any of our packages. If a customer wishes to upgrade to this new feature, you can treat $10 as an upgrade fee.

You are taking advantage of the fact that you expect many transfers?
We are not taking advantage of it, we are trying to compensate ourselves. See whats going to happen is that there are going to be many customers transfering themselves off existing servers onto new servers. Now there is alot of spare capacity that is going to be left on those servers as a result of these moves. This capacity can not be used again and it would result in a loss for us, as we’d have to setup new hardware for already existing customers. The $10 fee would help us recover hardware costs if all accounts on a server were asked to be transfered off…
I think we are being absolutely fair here. Existing customers never subscribed to .NET 1.1 and we’d simply like to cover up any losses by offering them a new feature
We also have some man hours involved with each change.

Just keep in mind that included or not, your offerring will be compared to other ISPs, not what you offerred in the past.
Many people will soon be looking and require 2.0 as new development rolls out.
